hey everyone. I just got a job at Target for my second job, working mornings in electronics. Today was my first day of training (cashier basics) I was just wondering if anyone had any tips? Also, will I be working alone normally ?
 
Welcome to The Break Room! Feel free to check out our electronics guides and the wiki. Unless your store is very high-volume, you'll generally be by yourself in electronics once your training is complete. The biggest focuses right now are Red Cards and AAR (attachments and service plans), so use the search bar to find threads on those topics.
 
Lol read.. You gotta lie your ass off. You get more hours if you can sell more useless crap people don't need, like "service plans" people never use.. Or 4 controllers for a system.. Just remember, it's not your money.. It's theirs.. Take it wisely.

I always just agreed with everybody, politely, then expressed shock that they didn't want to protect their.. whatever.. I could sell a service plan on a 12$ toaster

Oh yeah, harping that the front end is just as responsible for attachments as you are helps out with explaining your aar scores, that's all they do these days at my store..

I can see an argument that front end should sell SRP's, but not attachments, that's just silly.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to sell merchandise at the lanes when you're supposed to be fast, fun, and friendly.

Lol, cashiers.. Fast.. Thats a great one, I'll have to remember that
 
I think most of our non-newbie cashiers are fairly fast. I usually range 95-97% green transactions. Though yes, we do have some that are somehow yellow despite not being new, no clue how you get under 88% without trying to.

Even with all the change-diggers, price-checkers, indecisive guests, and all-around PITAs I got stuck with at the lanes, I was generally above 90%.
 
Welcome! Electronics is a lot of fun especially around this time of the year! Be sure you guest service everyone in your department "CIHYFS?", and learn all the attachments/service plans that go with core items.. You'll be alone typically until holiday hours start kicking in, then it will go apeshit back there and it might be 2-3 of you.

Make these 3 things your focus and you will set a good impression:
1) Great Guest Service, helping people find what they need, and being polite/courteous
2) Pushing Service Plans/ESPs, making people really believe they need them. Very important, if you can't get attachments/ESPs your AAR score will be low which is bad.
3) REDCards. OK while not as important as AAR for electronics, if you can manage to pull some REDCards in, you will get attention of your leadership team fast.
