I was recently hired for a 6am shift in the "flow" department. The person I spoke to wasn't very specific about what exactly we'll be doing other than unloading trucks. I have my orientation tomorrow, at 3pm. I'm just wondering, what goes on besides training videos and filling out our information? That can't possibly take up ALL of the orientation, can it?

Your orientation will be filling out some paper work and watching safety videos in the training room, maybe a tour of the backroom/sales floor. Make sure you bring everything (or anything) HR asked for (i.e. Driver's license). It may not take the entire time.

As a Flow TM, your day will start out with unloading the truck. When the truck is finished you will start stocking shelves using the wave process (work as a team). Once the truck is finished you will either help backstock or go home. There are other tasks but they are all related to the above. You will be trained (maybe) for a few days. Your leadership will know after your 1st or 2nd day if you'll make it past your 90 days. But don't worry, the job isn't terribly hard - it's just physical. There's a lot to learn about the entire process but you'll catch on. Good Luck!

Bring two valid forms of ID. Social Security card and state issued ID usually work. Or just a valid passport.

I think my orientation went for 3 or 4 hours but there were a lot of videos and maybe a 5 minute "here's the store and let's peek into the backroom" tour. You'll also get your training schedule since for the first week or two you won't be on the main one.

First day's probably going to be you getting paired with somebody (not necessarily the team trainer) and shown how to read labels, break out vehicles, push, etc.
Make sure to ask questions and pay attention because some of this stuff isn't hard, its just kind of tricky to explain. Like the labels.

Also for your first day I'd suggest being well hydrated, remember to ask about box cutters (took me 3 hours to figure out that one) and please move quickly. Don't need to run, but if you're lagging 6+ aisles behind your trainer while he's lugging a full pallet behind him, something's not right.

Not that I had to deal with that a couple weeks ago while training or anything like that.

Thank you @Circle9

Orientation went well, we sort of went quickly through the flow team area and I'm scheduled for next week to begin training. I'm not sure if I should clock in once I show up on my first day and find my way back to the Flow area, or tell the person at the desk (referring to the one near the lockers, not guest services) it's my first day before clocking in and what not.

Somebody'll probably snag you and tell you where to go or who to meet up with. Failing that, head for the back with the rest of flow and find the TL to get started. Also punch in, or at least try to; sometimes they haven't added you to the schedule yet.

You might be able to clock in, but it might reject your punch. If it rejects it, the person who opened the door/let everyone in should be able to override and clock you in. As far as what you do after that, hopefully your TL or ETL will recognize that you're new and pair you with someone for the day. If not, just ask.

Good luck!

I don't have a team number yet so I don't think I can clock in right?

Thanks guys. This is making me a lot less anxious haha.

They didn't give us a temporary card or name tag, just our training schedules for the next two weeks
