We're supposed to call by name too, but it's less that no one comes if we don't call by name so much as that if we just call for generic backup it's the same people over and over responding while others assume if they ignore us someone else will come so they won't have to. Luckily our STL, all but 1 Sr. TL, and 2 of the ETL's are very fast to come up, and the 1 Sr. TL in particular will come up and demand everyone else get their asses up there if it's slammed and people are trying to ignore the calls for backup.

"If you're wearing red and khaki, I expect you to be on a register. Now." is typically what he will call over the walkie after responding himself.

I feel like the individual TLs should be responsible for calling TMs by name for backup if nobody responds to a general backup call. It's kind of unreasonable to expect the GSA/GSTL to keep track of every backup-capable TM, whether or not they showed up that day, and where they're working, AND keep a rotation so the same people don't keep getting called up. TLs should know who on their team is best able to respond to backup.

I would respond ,if on any day of the week ,I could get my hand on a walkie !
We have 7 walkie for tms!!!ultra ulv but still not enough !!!

if I've called twice I'm supposed to call the LOD to help, who will gladly name names and ask for specific people to come up. more often than not though I don't even have to ask, if they hear me call twice they start calling people out.

I keep getting stuck in a situation where all my lanes will go like 1+3 in a heartbeat, but once I finally get one or two on backup, the people have already dumped their stuff on the belt and refuse to move. fine, if you like waiting that bad...

Do you guys not do "guest first hours"?? We assign two team members to every hour of the day and those two people are primarily responsible for responding to backup calls during that hour. That way, we know who to call out by name if no one responds and it's fair since we don't have the same people responding to all the calls.

I've never heard of this but it sounds like a good idea.

Until TMs are "with a guest" every time it's their turn to go up for back-up.
