Hey all,
I know there are plenty of other AMA's from former ETL's, but it not each ETL has the same experience. A little background about my time at Target:
Spent 5 years with Target after graduating college. Started out as an ETL-AP on the East side of Cleveland. After two years there I was promoted to PG10 and opened a High Risk store on Cleveland's West side. Started out as AP there and moved to Logistics after a year, then Hardlines, then back to AP. During my time there I interviewed for PG12, but was one of 15 sacrificial lambs that Group Management decided they wanted to send a message to all of the DM's that their talent was lacking. Made us feel really good.
After 4 years there I requested a move to Logistics in a district closer to my house. I had spent 4 years driving 110 miles round trip working 11-12 hour days. I left the company within a year after my HRBP first went behind my back and broke confidentiality, then lied about having a position open for me closer to home.

I have good and bad stories. I can even tell you about some cool apprehensions I had, both internal and external.

Go ahead, AMA.

Greetings and Salutations.

Welcome to The Break Room.

Hi, I'm fairly new to target but in my 5 months that I've been here I was promoted to GSA in my second month and now being developed into a TL. What's the probability of me getting promoted into Sr.TL in the next year? I'm only worried because I'm fairly young. 18 to be exact

Are ETL's allowed to coach team members about things they observe via cameras/digital surveillance? TM's texting or TM's listening to music on their phones, for example.

Not an ETL by any means, but I'd assume the answer is pretty obvious. Yes.

At my store we're not allowed to do that. It's good to know who and what to look for but we can't coach solely on what we watch on camera.

Why is seeing something on camera any less reliable than seeing it with your own eyes?

Not to mention there'd be no reason for the ETL to even mention that they saw it via camera.

Simply coach them because a fellow TM reported them for talking on their phone during business hours.

From what I understand, we can't be coached based solely on AP seeing us on the cameras. However, AP can tell a TL or ETL, who can then coach the TM upon witnessing the behavior.

So, AP watches me pocket $5,000 out of a register, not coachable?

That seems a bit unusual :p

Obviously, stealing and anything else against the law would be an exception. I was referring to TMs texting or whatever.

It is because it is against the AP directives. The cameras are tools to be accessed to help deter theft in your store. They are to be held in certain directions for the best possible view of the store, not for store leadership to spin around watching TMs text. It hinders their entire purpose by not allowing them to watch what they are supposed to watch.

Most challenging position...Etl-reco. In charge of stores remodels. Challenging but also a lot of fun hanging out with all the construction workers.
