MEGATHREAD Target myDevices

My store rolled out for the first time today and i used it for price change. Overall i was actually pretty happy that the horror stories test stores told about got fixed. One confusing thing is how the PDAs would have N-Done to activate the workload at the end of the day, but these devices are confusing. It seems like i have to single activate X amount of items before the activate all option shows up.

Yeah it isn't good at showing you "done" our research just leaves the last item on the screen even though you completed it. But if you check the first page, where it shows:

Price Change
Research
None

It will show "No" tasks.. I go back and check that screen if I think I hit the end of my task list.

I don't know what the deal is in my store, but I had a facepalm moment with my STL this morning followed by multiple facepalm moments later on in the morning.

STL comes by and I ask him where the MyDevices are. I wanted one for price change. He said they were locked up, but he had one blah blah blah words words words.... He didn't want to override the ETL-GE's decision to hide them until go live (I get that) and he didn't know the rollout timetable. I told him the timetable (I had all of the launch info in my clipboard). I explained how price change in hardlines is easier for us with the MyDevice and I showed him a few things (how to get out of research and price change modes and how to access the instocks info.

Later on the usual mid-morning truck day device shortage happens. Had the MyDevices been available I would have been able to give up my PDA and/or trained a few TMs/TLs how to use the new equipment. What do I know, I'm just the Digital Advisor?
You should have been allowed to use one. I am a digital advisor, and I got access from install day until GoLive. How else are you to train and get familiar with it?

The only complaint I have is when the myWork app is running and the device locks after the two minute of non-activity, the scanner will not work, therefore you have to reboot the device. The only remedy I have found is to exit to the homescreen and then lock the device and then relaunch the app when you have to scan something. That is my only complaint. I also have minor ones, say as in when I scan a POG head to say print POG labels or REV labels, it doesn't give me that option, but the PDAs do. <---This is good when I have to print from a hip printer. I would also like to see more label options as in short or cosmetic size, not just generic or regular size. One more is when we tie something, there is no option drop a batch of price accuracy or revision peg labels as in RF apps on the PDA. Ok, one more I would also like to see a option print a item barcode on the white adhesive labels as well. The only way to these are currently under BCODE in RF apps. That's all for now.

Well, that's actually quite a bit :)
  • This is the first I've heard of the scanner not working after the two minutes of non-activity (until you reboot). I'll investigate.
  • You should be able to print POG and REV labels (if not now, then soon).
  • The different label options that get displayed are based on what the original POG called for, so you'd never be able to print a cosmetic label for a box of Tide, but that option would be there for a cosmetic item.
  • I thought price accuracy labels printed automatically (without having to drop a batch). Is this not the case?
  • White ticket printing (BCODE) coming early next year.
As far as I know, no price accuracy batch drops. We now have to--if we tie with myDevice--to go back to our Sign/Label PC and manually print PA & peg labels. Dropping one big batch of PA labels and printing them saves time from searching them and printing individually.

I don't think its the actual device that is crashing but its like clockwork for me about an or so after I start in on the task list, I get that red exclamation point of death. And this afternoon, they just weren't connecting to the network. Frustrating when trying to work the drastic count report. You don't know if you actually got the count updated, and I didn't want to scan it again with a PDA.

Anyone else notice you can only have quantities of 99 or less? Sorry I have a 140 shower curtain liners on 8 pegs, but that is stupid. And why when you log into why don't we get a 10-key pad? Even for the searching we should have a 10-key pad option for keying DCPI's..

Ideally, the red exclamation mark would never come up, but soon, just touching it should "refresh" the page so you shouldn't have to restart the app. As for the shower curtains... isn't each peg hook considered a different location? If so, then ideally you could enter several smaller quantities. If it is indeed showing up as one pooled location, then you're right... the max input needs to be increased to 3-digits (which can be done in January).

The 10-key pad is an iOS limitation. I too prefer the 10-key, but there's no way (that I'm aware of) to offer that AND the alpha keyboard.

Refresh does nothing to fix red exclamation point, it has lost its connection and doesn't come back for a half hour or more. If it comes up at all, like today the actual device I had today never was able to pull the In-Stocks task list. Other devices had no issues, PDA or idevice though the other idevice on our team lost the list about a half hour later, never reconnecting even after rebooting it. .

And you can have multiple pegs all with the same number. Or dump bins, if the item is small easy to get a 100 of them. This is basic stuff and should have been caught in the beta.

They sleep almost instantly and take ages to come back up, slowing down any process you are using them for when you have to put them down, or you have to just scan things to keep them awake also slowing you down. Cause you are now afraid to put the device down cause it will be asleep by the time you pick it back up again.

They refuse to let you jump locations in a task list forcing you back not to the start of your list, but the first list if you have multiple TM's working. When you finish a list it leaves the last task completed looking to the user as open and uncompleted.

We need capacity as a valid reason to skip a task, since so many are wrong and counting them will cause issues so skipping for that reason is valid. Having ability to change the capacity on the fly would be awesome.

10-key pad iOS limitation, again should have been caught in the beta.
I would love to change capacity to what can ACTUALLY fit. Dreams...

Yes it hates to let you jump around. We used to split the task list into 5, 6 batches, now on myDevice we do one big batch and let everyone free for all an area. Since when you get finished with a batch, instead of it exiting back to the batches, it keeps you going. I did like 3 batches without even knowing until I backed out to the menu

^^ Tell me about it, I MySupport pages of capacity issues once a week taking about an hour or so to fill out all the requests. Then it resets and the cycle resets.

I tend to jump around to avoid soft lines doing the shoes reshop or Plano setting, or needing to get that area in the middle scanned before we get busy. It makes my life miserable.

I hate fighting with equipment.

Yes all of our iPods do the non functioning scanner if you leave the nyWork app open and the device locks. I've stressed that to my team telling them how to avoid it. Did it to me once today because I forgot to exit the app. I was like "nooooo!" Haha.

I went in today to work a short shift in price change. I got in at 6:45 and had to wait until 8 to get a PDA because the MyDevices are STILL locked in 239 and the STL and ETL-GE were both off today ("no direction" on whether they can be used or not).

Here's what bothers me. We have ~20-something pieces of brand new, perfectly usable equipment sitting in the cash office. We have a combination of around 25-28 PDAs and LPDAs in various states of repair. I'm more than willing to not only use, but to train others to use the new equipment. Every time I heard "does anyone have a PDA I can use?" over the walkie I just said (usually to whomever was around me) "You know, there would be plenty of equipment if we had the MyDevices out."

If you're just doing salesfloor stuff (item search), learn to use the MyDevice. Leave the PDAs in the cabinet for someone who actually needs it. If your job will be switching over to MyDevice (Price Change, Instocks), learn to use it but know the current limitations.

Remember we're gonna HAVE to start using this stuff soon, so get used to them while we still can fall back on the other equipment.

I guess I didn't think there was anything weird about responding till you mentioned it... but I actually enjoy this forum quite a bit. As for EXF, are you referring to creating a fill or pulling it from the stockroom? Tapping "Fill from stockroom" is the quickest way to create a batch, but the ability to work a pull batch (in the stockroom) won't be coming anytime soon.

That's what it is; yeah, I want to work the pull batches because backroom at my store doesn't like to do those. Any idea as to why that's not coming any time soon?

Great question... the plan is to get all of the sales floor stuff on there before even thinking about stockroom functions. So; things like QMOS, PCV, SIM, DEFECTIVES were next in line, but in hopes to get the iPod to a place where it's the only device a sales floor team member would need all day, STO and SUBT will be added in January (with most remaining sales floor apps to come shortly after that).

Any idea when the regular PDAs lose the WebApps, or is that not happening?
Most apps (including the RF Apps) that myDevice replaces will be turned off in early 2015. I think the only exception is Item Search... that'll stick around for a while.

I would love to not have one of each on my hip but the iDevice is not stable enough to go it alone with it.
Nope, had to switch to PDA today because Instocks mode was super glitchy.
Just curious... do you call this "glitchy" stuff into the CSC? I ask because "reports" are showing myDevice as being pretty stable (and I personally don't buy it). My fear is that people are picking up the PDAs when they have issues and not opening up myDevice tickets... so then there's nothing to fix on myDevice.

A very early prototype of myWork allowed changing capacity. (Replenishment got too complicated and there were bigger fish to fry). But, the idea isn't dead. :)

Please please we need this. But only available to TLs & up because it could be abused to create "less work" by TMs changing capacities to 0.

Another issue I found: when requesting a fill from stockroom, the batch drops under EXFs in RF apps named "MYDEVICE" which makes it difficult to determine which batch was shot by whom or where in the stockroom said batch will pull from. It would be great to be able to name the batch or at least have the name indicate what fillgroup the batch is for (such as BATH, CHEM, GIRL, etc).

Depends on who is LOD. The good ones make the call, the lazy MF's tell me wait 5min and try again.

I personally would love a tech on speed dial cause I am sick of networks and equipment not working.

Hmmmm... The only fills that are ever supposed to drop in as EXF are those when you use "Get More". But the name should never be MYDEVICE. A few of us saw that in beta testing but could never recreate it and haven't seen it since. That too would be something to call into the CSC because the batch name is supposed to always be unique and driven by the items in the batch. How often does this happen? Is there a pattern that you can tell?

Yeah yesterday when I did "Get More" it dropped as MyDevice

Guilty, no I'm using a PDA now for Instocks. Ever since the myWork update a few days ago, it's been glitchy, freezing, closing the app doesn't work either. Also if you could answer. I just updated a few iPod's REDwire app to start receiving alerts, do they actually work? I asked the leaders to tell me if it works or not just so I can communicate it correctly. I don't get alerts anymore like I did on the PDA since I'm a TM under REDwire.

I don't even bother to say a word to anyone, because I know it will never be fixed. I had a mydevices the other night, when I was in electronics. A guest called wanting to know if we had the new Slipknot album. So I went into mywork, typed in slipknot, and got two results. I tried to click on that to get what the two results were, and the stupid thing just spun and spun and spun and spun and never actually gave me what the two results were. Finally I went to target.com on the device (so I know it wasn't a wifi issue) and got the info that way. This isn't the first time I've had this issue, but always thought it was the fact we have to rely on the world's worst wifi.

Hi gang... I work with the team that helps decide what to "fix" and "enhance" next on myDevice. Knowing that SUBT, STO & QMOS are coming in January to the myWork app... what annoyance or issues would you say need attention the most?

GSTL alerts. I cannot do my job effectively without these.
MyFA notifications. How can I keep my LOD on top of these otherwise?
Last selling price of an item. Best practice is to refuse a return if the guest doesn't have a receipt and it's no longer in our system, but with vibe and bold we will give them back the last price, but you can only get this on a pda. If you scan a salvage item on a mydevice, you get the full price under the 0.00.

It's happening, with the fill from stockroom option.

Something I would like on these...When checking stock of item at other stores I'd love the store numbers to be listed. Right now it lists the address and phone number(I think). When we call other stores for the guest we dial their actual store number not the phone number. Just much quicker that way.

Today was the day of the Mydevice just not listing sales floor locations for products.. Any products.... Still happening when I left today..

I believe they will be coming in through REDwire sometime next week? That is how it was always planned to happen and I have seen ETLs log into REDwire on their phone and receive alerts.
