MEGATHREAD Target myDevices

I updated a the REDwire app on a few iPods today. I don't think any of the leaders got alerts though... so I don't know exactly how that works.

So we have these in now. They look pretty cool.

Once again leaders are enforcing equipment sign-out, they've told us that losing or breaking a mydevice will result in a coaching at the minimum.

HOWEVER, they have also told us that we can't sign them out unless we've been trained to use them by a leader... and it's like... it's just an iPod touch. I own an iPhone, an (older) iPod touch, an iPad mini, and I've built my last 2 PCs on my own.

how hard could it be to teach myself?

We have lost two of them already from drops, so not the most robust devices. Out of 13, 2 already destroyed in under a month. Great.

The sleds do add a bit of durability. Still not as good as the mc75 or mc9200 though :) those can take a beating.

Sign them out? Hah, I could walk in, grab 5, walk back out the door and take them all home at my store. Not that I would, but that's how little anyone gives a shit about keeping tabs on them.
like any ios device, they do have location tracking. if you actually use them we can track who logged in.

its not you can't figure it out on your own, but this what you can do now. need to calculate 5%? you have a calculator on your mydevice.

do we carry this? you have the target app. it'll show you the exact aisle or not if we carry.

even aside so many things can be done with the mydevice, we also need to show them how to basic troubleshoot. working guest service where we've needed to use an ipads, its a shit show. are you connected to tcwireless? did you quit and restart the program? did you restart the device? so many get the blank look.

You can definitely figure out simple stuff on your own. The only thing that wasn't intuitive to me was connecting to a printer, but after I figured it out, I realized the search bar actually mentions printers when you click it. If you click on everything, you'll figure it out eventually. I wasn't trained to do the simple junk. I was trained to log in and the location of the scanner button initially. Then I was trained to do the pog thing on another occasion. It was my first one, so I don't even know how to do it on a pda.

Those troubleshooting questions get blank stares from people who are bad at tech stuff... And old people.

Is there a way to type a dpci into the mydevice for price change, for when the barcode doesnt scan?

I got a little ahead and tried using it cause im a digital advisor.. but it was so wierd and felt it was slowing me down completely.. (repeatedly hitting print.. i hope that gets fixed)

@Ulguy .. it would be nice, whenever you sczn an item under price change function, that it would automatically print and then ask a quantity or to scan something else, like the rf apps version on the pda

Do you have Auto-print on? If I'm thinking of it correctly. I've never been taught on Pricing so, that's the one function on the device I know very little about.

I actually just saw the option for auto-print today..

I don't like it at all and I accidentally activated something a couple times. I really hate the fact that the things you do in the pda don't reflect in mydevice yet.. it's not clear what the next task is and what to do..

Lowes just got similar devices, but they got lifeproof/otterbox grade holsters to match. Very saddened by the cheap "scanning sled" we have to protect from drops. I just have visions of it dropping, the screen shattering as it skids across the freezer floor...

I've managed to drop a mydevice twice now...not on purpose, of course...and it held up fine. But I'm fearful my luck may run out.

Hi gang... I work with the team that helps decide what to "fix" and "enhance" next on myDevice. Knowing that SUBT, STO & QMOS are coming in January to the myWork app... what annoyance or issues would you say need attention the most?

GSTL alerts. I cannot do my job effectively without these.
MyFA notifications. How can I keep my LOD on top of these otherwise?
Last selling price of an item. Best practice is to refuse a return if the guest doesn't have a receipt and it's no longer in our system, but with vibe and bold we will give them back the last price, but you can only get this on a pda. If you scan a salvage item on a mydevice, you get the full price under the 0.00.
Hmmm... seems like POS should be "enhanced" to have that. I'll pass that along. GSTL Alerts should be coming soon within RedWire.

A very early prototype of myWork allowed changing capacity. (Replenishment got too complicated and there were bigger fish to fry). But, the idea isn't dead. :)
Please please we need this. But only available to TLs & up because it could be abused to create "less work" by TMs changing capacities to 0.

Another issue I found: when requesting a fill from stockroom, the batch drops under EXFs in RF apps named "MYDEVICE" which makes it difficult to determine which batch was shot by whom or where in the stockroom said batch will pull from. It would be great to be able to name the batch or at least have the name indicate what fillgroup the batch is for (such as BATH, CHEM, GIRL, etc).

Hmmmm... The only fills that are ever supposed to drop in as EXF are those when you use "Get More". But the name should never be MYDEVICE. A few of us saw that in beta testing but could never recreate it and haven't seen it since. That too would be something to call into the CSC because the batch name is supposed to always be unique and driven by the items in the batch. How often does this happen? Is there a pattern that you can tell?

It's happening, with the fill from stockroom option.
I looked into this... and it appears to be happening anytime the system "auto-closes" a batch for you. If you go under the Options menu and manually close your fill batches (before they get auto-closed), does it happen then?

Yes... "auto print" is the option you describe. It functions similarly to how the old PDAs function. While it's frustrating that the work-list doesn't reflect the work done by the PDA immediately, old PDAs shouldn't be used for price change anymore at all.

My store rolled out for the first time today and i used it for price change. Overall i was actually pretty happy that the horror stories test stores told about got fixed. One confusing thing is how the PDAs would have N-Done to activate the workload at the end of the day, but these devices are confusing. It seems like i have to single activate X amount of items before the activate all option shows up.

Yeah it isn't good at showing you "done" our research just leaves the last item on the screen even though you completed it. But if you check the first page, where it shows:

Price Change
Research
None

It will show "No" tasks.. I go back and check that screen if I think I hit the end of my task list.
If you did you very last price change for the day... it doesn't give you some sort of "All Done!" message? Surprised nobody said something sooner. Good feedback.

...Somehow I doubt this is real (why would Target allow someone from corporate to come to this site), BUT something I would like, that I haven't heard of being on it, is the batches. With Project Viper being used at stores, and the goal is for TMs to pull product from the shelves, the fastest way to do this is an EXF batch. However, from what I can see, there is no way to access RF apps, therefore, no way to access your EXF batches.

So basically, a way to pull research/EXFs would be nice.
By the way... I learned more about project Viper the other day... and I now better understand your quandary. Can't guarantee that it'll bring "PULL" to myDevice, but it'll re-ignite the conversation. Good feedback; thanks!

Could you ask that they add a submenu to the list. Like instead of there being straight aisles could you divide it up into collapsible sections with totals for each block (like rf apps version) so much easier to look at and decide what to do under time constraints..

I don't think they really took into consideration how much more time consuming it is to use the mydevice in softlines at price change. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it today (my endcap audit was a breeze.. all 500 signs.. ugh) .. but in softlines I used to scan a whole rack and then ticket what was on the bar of my cart. I can't really do that anymore.. I went from doing 150 tickets an hour to maybe 100 if the ipod cooperates..

I noticed a slowdown, too. Even with auto-print on, you have to make sure that the ticket prints before moving on since it can't stack scans like the PDA does. Let's say I scan a clearance rack with 40 items on the bar. With a PDA and perfect coordination I should be able to scan that rack within two minutes and then run back through and put the tickets on. With the MyDevice it seems like I'm spending an additional 3-4 seconds (minimum) waiting for the ticket. That two minutes just went up to nearly four minutes.

I want to know who's bright idea it was to take the 'Search' function out of REDwire on the desktop and app? It was really helpful instead of 'trying' to navigate the program... just venting, sorry.

The only complaint I have is when the myWork app is running and the device locks after the two minute of non-activity, the scanner will not work, therefore you have to reboot the device. The only remedy I have found is to exit to the homescreen and then lock the device and then relaunch the app when you have to scan something. That is my only complaint. I also have minor ones, say as in when I scan a POG head to say print POG labels or REV labels, it doesn't give me that option, but the PDAs do. <---This is good when I have to print from a hip printer. I would also like to see more label options as in short or cosmetic size, not just generic or regular size. One more is when we tie something, there is no option drop a batch of price accuracy or revision peg labels as in RF apps on the PDA. Ok, one more I would also like to see a option print a item barcode on the white adhesive labels as well. The only way to these are currently under BCODE in RF apps. That's all for now.
We just launched our mydevices today, and I noticed the scanner not working after I had not used it for a bit. I thought I had done something wrong and then I figured out I just had to keep turning the ipod off and back on to get it to work again. Very aggravating when you never know if it will be ready to scan or not...
