It started off with one of our registers. It kept freezing after a transaction and rebooting itself. We had a technician here for a week working on it, eventually reflashed the software. A couple weeks later the register starts doing the same thing, then register 5 starts doing it. Then register 7, then 10, then one of the guest service registers, and finally one of the electronics registers.

Our store now currently has 6 registers that constantly freeze at the end of transactions and we can't seem to get a technician that knows what they're doing. We've tried the emergency work orders, regular work orders, the client support center. No one knows.

A little over a month until Black Friday...I wonder what would happen if these stay in non-reliable condition?

Oh my god, this has been my day all day too. I have one register completely out of commission, and two that keep going in and out. It keeps getting to the point where I need backup but almost don't have any register to put them on.

Absolutely! I myself am a math failure. You couldn't pay me enough. Registers would kill my brain and my back.

Our registers used to generally be fine. But this past year they have all taken turns being out of commission at random times. Oddly enough, it's usually the registers that we never use that are most likely to stop working properly...they'll get an update and will never boot properly and then be down for a month or so.

The week or two it was the Starbucks register was extra special...

Sounds like the network outage we experienced on Fathers' Day. It was my first cashing shift in months, and go figure, all the registers kept crashing.

Registers were dropping like flies today. Freezing, crashing, rebooting, no PIN network connectivity... All of them were doing it. Apparently this is an issue in several stores. Really hoping it is resolved soon.

I had two of the three guest service registers crashed at once and rebooting, I was sweating bullets praying the third didn't crash before those two finished rebooting, luckily they didn't.

im glad to hear it wasn't just my store that had their registers going down. we had to move constantly to different registers with guests half way done with their transactions. it was embarrassing, but most of the guests took it well. i moved maybe 6 times today in a four hour shift because of this whole thing.

Worst case scenerio, you can process most Guset Service transactions at another register. Problem with that is... all the other registers are POSSESSED right now!! I'm positive it has to do with all the updating. I'm hoping it's in preparation for BF and they better be done in time damnit.

It happened at my store too last night. We lost a Redcard app because the register couldn't handle it and the guest did not want to wait. Other ones would shut down spontaneously during a transaction. At one point we had six of our sixteen lanes out of commission. One little old lady asked me if we were being hacked again!

Yeah they said that was global. Everytime a guest swiped a debit card registers were crashing.. our HR screamed at us to stop running debit cards because the CEO was about to walk in the building LOL
This is the problem with visits - the things we struggle with every day are hidden or covered up so the DTL, CEO or whomever sees things running smoothly. Makes no sense. Nothing will ever change if higher-ups think everything's OK.

Three of us hopped on backup yesterday morning around 830. My register said it was offline. I hit clear. Red screen...offline. Hit clear again, and register looks fine. I log in and scan an item and then i get kicked back out. I log in again and the scanning goes fine. Go to process PIN. After a minute the PIN network is down. Reprocess as credit. After an actual minute the receipt finally prints. Then the register says it is closed. I open it up and it works like normal. I had to walk the other two backups through this at the same time.

So then I decide to check the other registers since the GSTL was busy at guest service. Half the registers said offline. do the whole clear twice thing and you can finally log in. But then you couldn't sign out or void to sign out because the register says it is closed even though you are logged in! I had to scan an item and then void everything to get back to the login screen where, lo and behold, the register is closed. Opened it up and everything worked fine.

It's as if the registers didn't auto open correctly this morning and then got stuck in some loop where it was "open" but not actually open. Thankfully ours worked fine the rest of the day.

Ours were shutting down randomly yesterday - When I called them in, I got an automated message that said they were aware of crashing registers and pin pad problems - they are working to fix the problem with no eta - If you are calling for any other problems please stay on the line. I hung my head and closed my eyes for a minute - Prayed that I would be able to make it through the night. It was the night from hell for me. I felt that I was spinning in a few directions at once and did not have the usual night time regulars. The cashiers I had needed their hands to be held. The place was trashed, all they cared about were their breaks, I had to walk them through every step for closing - and it's not as if they have never done it before. It's that they don't want to know what to do so that they can say, oh I didn't know. I had to listen to the LOD ask me why the front end wasn't getting zoned. Really? How does your seasonal department look right now - Hope it's zoned! Don't know how it could be because there were 4-5 carts of seasonal reshop at guest services.
I think the gremlins and goblins arrived a day early.

Today all the cameras went off line. We called the *help* desk who said, "Global problem" and immediately hung up. No way to review tape for the past two days. Oh, well.

We've had the same issues starting on Thursday with a bunch of the registers rebooting in the middle of transactions. It's really quite inconvenient. However, we've have a problem child in Pharmacy and it's been an ongoing issue for months. I don't know how much yelling we have to do in order to get NCR to give us a new register.

Smooze the NRC guys.. If you know what you are talking about and can talk geek to them, they tend to listen to you better...also, when you call the help desk, the more detail you give them, the more they will help, that is when they aren't in the middle of a "global problem"

The chances of you getting a new register? Meet slim and his brother none. I'm in a new store and all our registers are refurbished. The only way you'll get a different register (different, not new, because I'm pretty sure these registers were built in 1963?) is a fire or theft. Seriously.
