I just got placed by manpower, for the A2 shift Inbound,
Just wondering what to expect on the night shift and what do I have to do to get hired by target directly
Thank you

I'm Outbound A2, but as far as I know, all we have temps do in IB is throw on the ART lines. Very simple: throw a box on the line about every 13 inches, on the most conveyable side with the vendor bar codes facing up or on the sides. That's it, but it's for 12 or 10 hours (depending on your building), so it can get tiring. Just as a caveat, at least in my building, our manpower guys aren't designated to a particular dept (IB/OB/MBP), so it's possible you may throw in ART one day, load doors or work depal the next, and then feed in MBP the day after, but that could just be my building.

As for trying to get hired, try to work as hard as the full-timers. A LOT of the temps we get tend to get in a mood that 'I only work for half the pay, so I only need to do half the work', but nothing says 'don't hire me' louder than a guy dragging ass all night long and slowing down the team as a whole. Ask questions about how your actions in a particular dept. affect the mezz, OB, the rest of the building and also what you can do to be more productive. Keep an eye out on the Target website for job postings in your building, but I really wouldn't expect any til at least Feb, since the buildings at this point should be fully staffed for Q4 volumes.

Also, I advise investing in your preferred brand of energy drink and painkillers. Welcome to the DC side.

Thanks , I really appreciate your reply. At the orientation, the woman in charge said most of us would be put on the ART. So It is what it is, I own my own seasonal business in the summer so I figured I'd Start this and crunch 36 hrs into 3 days for extra money, but I would really like to get hired by target. Thanks again for the advice, One more question, Does the night shift differ from the day shift that much?

Eh. Aside from the obvious changing your sleep cycle, not really. I'd say the bigger difference is between the A-keys and B-keys, at least in my building. B-keys seemingly get better freight, from a productivity standpoint, and are staffed better than us A-key guys, but they also run larger production plans and typically don't have the larger priority/HV drops (read: nasty freight) we get on A-keys. TM's also get a pay diff on 2nd and 3rd shift (I think in my building it's something like 1.15-1.25$/hr)

I was placed as a picker/packer for now, any insight to that job?

The 'P' of MBP. Stores don't always need a full casepack of something, for instance, nail polish comes in a case pack of 72, but how often is a store gonna need that much? So what is done is those bigger casepacks are opened and smaller quantities are put into a repack box with other items to be shipped to the store. My understanding of packing is that you scan a casepack, and a screen tells you how many quantities need to be packed to which stores. When the repack is full, you tape it up, label it and send it up to the mezz. Note: This only what I've heard of, as I'm in OB, so there's probably stuff I'm missing out on that your trainer/temp lead can fill you in on.

Now, things to make yourself better in packing, from my OB and a store-side perspective:
Make sure your empty boxes make it to the baler line and NOT the line going to the mezz
When labeling, make sure it's on the most conveyable side, and for repacks, that any old labels are either removed or completely covered up
Tape up your boxes good and throw away any bad repacks. OB and store-side hate nothing more than a repack being held together by a lick and a prayer that falls apart when you lift it, and don't even get me started if it breaks on the mezz...
When labeling, circle the correct zone. A zone is sorta like a dept (16 is softlines, 9 is security, 6 is office/stat, etc), and having an incorrect zone circled (or not at all) inspires a lot of hate from the guys store-side, so don't do that.
