Archived Our registers have the plague...

I wonder who reads the crash reports, and if they have a sense of humor. yesterday when a computer rebooted and I got the prompt asking what happened, I typed in that our computers have ebola.

Everything in me wants to put something snarky everytime it happens, but I don't want to get in trouble for being rude to this faceless person who probably doesn't actually do anything with the information we give them.
yeah, my instinct of 'the same thing as last time' is probably not helpful. but after the fifteenth time a register crashes when I hit the total key, or hangs when I swipe a credit card, I can't help but think how good it would feel.

SBTL watched me enter it and giggled, up until she watched me enter in my TM #, she said she'd have bullshitted it and entered in random #'s, not her own # if entering a joke reason.

our registers have finally settled down, but now the snow has started and with it all the craziness of random communication failures and system glitches. (at least that's what we blame it on.) like how today for about an hour all our no-receipt returns were defaulting to cash as recommended refund. ummmmmmm. that was fun.

@RG: the last year I was GSA during the holidays, I actually over-ordered on bags & receipt tape - to the point that we were stacking cases along one wall of the conference room about shoulder high.
Did we run out?
Nope, but we were BFFs to every other store in our district that DID run short & I had MAD barter skills.

If you need numbers, I can get them for you. I know it's hard to care, but it makes your job harder if you don't have supplies. I could even email you a list of the commonly used items if you'd like.

This thread reminds me... Could someone please PM me the number for gift cards?

Which ones? Each type has its own DPCI unless you mean the generic ones given out for refunds/returns/promos.

Yesterday all our card readers quit working. At the same time. For five minutes. The LOD said, "give them all apology coupons." OK, cool. But how do we get paid? "Oh, um, ask them to wait until we can get them fixed?" hahahahahahaha said the guests.

Oops, yeah, I meant the generic return/promo gift cards.
I PM'd ya.

We managed to get all but 3 up in the checklanes; one went down at FA along with the SB register. In the majority of cases, they freeze during a trans, flickering some until you simply have to shut them down & reboot. Sometimes they come up, sometimes they won't let you log in & sometimes they get stuck in an endless loop.
Sounds like the previous tech team left a poison pill in the system before they got canned.
same here. 3rd time for this "new" register 1121141955a.jpg time of death 5.48 pm

Why don't we get any prompts? Is it something new?

Nope, has always happened at my store, it asks you what you were doing when the computer crashed, and for your TM #.

We finally had a dude in fixing our broken registers today. It was long awaited, and was a good chance to observe oblivious people who would ask "Are you open?" to the dude not in red OR khaki anything and with the register in bits and pieces everywhere. Or the people who loaded crap on the belt anyways.

In my store the register plague has affected one poor register who has been booting for the past 7 days and is now in a coma of booting, and the mobile POS carts (in both senses of the word) who will not update the database, process debit/credit transactions, or basically do anything. GSTL got angry when the mobile POS cart told him his number didn't exist.

LOL:D

I am glad I have never encountered this daily struggle of a cashier at Spot.

It seems like a hassle to deal with a nonfunctional POS and an agitated guest when I would simply say tough luck to try the next cashier lol.

This would frustrate me so much. Especially if there are various bits & pieces of said computer all over the belt.

well now we can ring them up, but i cant guarantee a reciept. the gstl didnt believe me. nice job ncr you out did yourself ;)

Happens all the time at our store. Black Friday my register dropped after the first transaction. Company makes way too much money for this to be an everyday occurrence. We also had the same broken equipment for years apparently.

We had 3/13 registers catch the plauge last night but surprisingly everything went smoothly.

Nothing beats the morning we had, at any given moment, 6-7/13 of the registers crashed. And they kept spontaneously crashing so you'd have to switch to a fresh register every 5 minutes. Oh, and did I mention it was unusually busy and lines were like, 6 deep?

We had 5 down at once last night. 1 of them came back up with a warning that the card reader had been "tampered" with, and has been nonfunctional ever since.

We had that a couple of months ago. Our SFT ended up getting an entirely new card reader. And it took like two or three weeks to get it after he ordered it.

We had two of our three guest service registers crash at the same time yesterday, for no particular reason. Of course all three were being used at the time because we were busy. That was not pleasant.
