what are fun and cost effective recognition to team members? starbucks was really appreciated, gift cards were until someone bought liquor and we can't do it anymore.

what are ways to show we recognize the great work of the team that are appreciated and not out of 549?

Food is always good.
Bake cookies, brownies etc. knowing that it was made for them specifically makes people feel special.

What's wrong with buying alcohol with recognition giftcards? So long as they don't drink it at work I don't honestly see why it's a big deal.

I've been warned against alcohol haha. Idk if it's just plain inappropriate or what. I'll have to ask. Giftcards have to do with tax issues. I've given target gear like shirts and stuff. I'll even buy lunch or since I have all males, I've gotten them their favorite energy 4 packs or energy bars.

All male team eh?
And you said no booze, so that knocks out my strip club idea.
Baking may not be your forte' but wings?
If they go on break at the same time you can have them delivered and your team gets a big plate of wings.
If there are any left over they can take them home.
There must be a good wings place in the area.

My target is awesome. Recognition is run by the coolest person. She makes a raffle of it. So if you get a red card or do something amazing, you go pick a paper and then find out your prize. Some Are low cost items and some are better. But it's super fun. One night I went out of my way for a guest and was told to go pick out a toy under 10 for one of my kids for christmas. It encourages us a lot.

We had a $25 gift card limit to avoid the tax issue - but gift cards to restaurants were always good. Sometimes we did multiple $25 gift cards for a TM - depending on what they did. Sometimes TMs were happy with a simple hug or a kiss on the cheek.

Seriously - one of my TLs offered mustache rides at a huddle one time - didn't go over too well. It was hard to coach that moment because I couldn't stop laughing at his goofy beard/mustache combo he had going on. Also, I already accepted a job elsewhere so it didn't matter if feelings got hurt at that point.

Cunnilingus as recognition. K, I've now heard it all.

When I applied for GSA one of my ideas to help with Redcards was to have a "Redcard Hero of the month" The idea was to recognize a different team member based on how often they get Redcards and the overall amount they get in a day ect, we also had a "blackboard" so the Redcard hero could right down their "secrets". it was fun for a few months than they ended it.

I've done things like:

Free food ave/drink combo
12 pack of pop cans
target's recognition merch
high fives and radio recognition
"an extra 5 minutes on your 15's"

Don't forget about good old vibe cards, too :)

Everyone likes to get clear recognition! I now work at a retailer who doesn't do nearly as good of a job with recognizing the team, and it shows through in their attitudes and our turnover

On a serious note, food is always good.

Every few weeks I will buy donuts or candy for all the cashiers and backups - yes out of my own pocket. When I give it to each one I will let them know how much I appreciate them and thank them for all they do. If I think they need to work on something, I will let them know that also.
I'm not saying that anyone has to buy things out of their own pocket, but a little pat on the back and making a TM feel somewhat important goes a long way. I try to remember something about all of them. I will ask if their kids are feeling better, or how school was going or tell someone about a new recipe I made. Nothing extensive, but I find it helps moral.

I always like it when people take the time for me - I am assuming that others like the same.

I remember our ETL-GE offered to take me to Penara bread for getting the most Red cards in the store during 3rd Q. I felt it was inappropriate to leave Target property but it was a thoughtful idea!

Honestly I really like when my ETL says Thank You for a specific reason. I hate when they throw around "great job everyone". Everyone has the jack offs that don't do squat while you and others pick up the slack. Seriously a sincere Thank You for taking care of XYZ today lets you know that someone noticed that you busted your ass.If they can take the time to sit you down in an office to tell you that you suck, they should also be able to sit you down and look you in the eye and tell you they appreciate how hard you work and how good your results are. Just saying....

Not sure why leaving Target property would be inappropriate. If a ETL wanted to take me out to dinner I'd be game. Wouldn't even care if it was a male or female ETL, free food is free food.

Watch what the buy on their break/lunch for awhile. Then get them that food or snack item as their recognition.

I agree with the earlier post. If I am doing such a good job, give me a raise. I'm here for a paycheck. Not pats on the back. Not Starbucks. Not stuffed dogs dressed like dragons. Cause let's face it, I can't use any of those things to pay my electric bill.

I know that sounds harsh. But don't say I am doing a good job all year, then f**k me over at review time.
