Archived Easier to extend or shorten LOA?

Basically what the title says. If I might go on edu LOA, but I don’t know exactly when I’ll come back, should I do the LOA for longer and shorten it if needed, or vice versa?

Go for longer & let your hr know, you might be come back early.
