Would Target respond after a 2nd interview on the weekends? I'm getting quite worried, and I don't know when or if I should respond

Hello, I'm getting quite worried after my 2nd interview for Target. I thought it went well, and we sort of talked like we were friends. They said that I should hear back from them in a few hours or soon; however, it's been a few days after that. I've heard that after a 2nd interview, from other people at Target, if they want you, then they hire you on the spot after that. My application for Target Careers says still in progress, but during the interview, there was something wrong with the job I applied to, and if I were to be hired, it would be this other one, but it still has the old job there so I'm not sure if I should still track it or not, since it would be inaccurate to what I'm applying to. Do you guys know what I should do? Also, I hear that they ghost you sometimes, so I'd appreciate advice, please.

HR might not be there on the weekends but can always call and ask ive seen plenty of instances where they say they will do something and dont. I say give it till monday and if you dont hear back call the store. If they were going to say no to hiring you they would of sent an email saying so so chances are they are just delayed for one reason or another

Thanks, this reassures me a bit. I tried my best during the interview. I tried to dress properly and make myself look like I already worked there (which may have been a cocky move looking back, though that wasn’t my intention). I also said “thank you” and tried to be as polite as possible. I made sure to tell them that I have a lot of availability, can work weekends, and that I live very close, I can walk there in under 5 minutes and drive there in under 1.

The main thing I’m concerned about is that I asked them to repeat questions a couple of times, stumbled a little on some answers, and feel like I could have answered some things better. I also asked several questions at the end, but some of them had awkward grammar, such as: “What qualifications do I have that have you concerned?” and “What is the most challenging part of this role, and what can I do to do well?”

I’m not sure if that makes me look unknowledgeable. I’m just really nervous because this was my first real interview besides the HireVue one they had me do before, and I don’t really know what to expect.

I also wanted to write a thank you letter, not only was I actually grateful with my interviewer because they were really kind, but I wanted to show my appreciation and to maybe up my chances of getting the job.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. You said there was something wrong with the position you originally hired for, so it could be that HR is waiting to talk to the leader over the area they are hiring for. Stores are also pretty busy right now, so they may not have had a chance to reach back out.

As for the original position still being posted, Target keeps core positions posted at all times to solicit potential candidates, even if they don't actually have role open right that minute. For example, they always have postings for cashiers. Doesn't mean they actively need to hire that role, but chances are they will in the very near future.

Last but not least, Target doesn't turn people down by phone. You'd get an update in the system indicating that you are no longer being considered for the position. Since you haven't gotten that, they are still working on it. It sounds like you did a good job on the interview. Half the people come in for interviews looking like they were dragged across the parking lot by a grizzly bear. It sounds like you were professional and undoubtedly made a good impression.

Thanks for responding. For the original position thing, I meant that on my Target Careers Website, it says on my application that it's still under the position that I applied for, and should be the new one that they would put me in, and I was wondering if I should still follow that one even though it wouldn't be the one I'd be put in

Here's a screenshot of what I mean

Thanks
I currently work in HR for Target.

Most often this happens when leaders interview someone on my day off. They usually leave a note on my desk that I’ll see when I return, telling me to hire the candidate. If its my weekend off, I might not hire someone until I see the note on Monday morning.

I wouldn’t worry until it’s been 3 full days without a response. From there, the best thing you can do is call the store to ask for an update. Whether they accept or turn you down though, you’ll be notified immediately via email/target careers.

I would not send a thank you letter. As someone in HR, the thing that always stands out to me the most is when candidates stop by the guest service counter and ask to speak to me in-person. I love getting to shake hands with a candidate and update them face-to-face. It shows a lot of initiative, commitment (and often bravery I find) to come back to the store.

It’s good that you had questions at the end! It sounds like you did well in the interview.

Good luck!!

Hello,

Since I interviewed on Wednesday, it has been about 4 days, including the weekends. Would it be best to wait until this coming Wednesday, and does it being seasonal mean anything? I've heard folks say that after the 2nd interview, they get hired or get a job offer on the spot, or that they waited weeks and were completely ghosted. Also, for the email/target careers thing, since it still shows the old job I applied to and not the one I would be working in, would I still follow that?

Thanks

I would wait till Monday afternoon. After that, go ahead and call the store, ask to speak to HR, and request an update.

As for your question on target careers still showing the old job, this is a little tricky. Sometimes, we reject your original application (even though we know we want to hire you) and ask you to re-apply under the job title you’d actually be working in so that things are done right. Other times we’ll just hire you with the old/wrong job title and then transfer you to the correct position once you’re officially part of Target. Either way though, I always make a habit of calling my candidates to explain why they need to re-apply or why their offer letter doesn’t match the job position we discussed in the interview. It really depends on what's "wrong" with the original posting and how the HR team wants/needs to handle the issue.

Hello,

Thanks, I really appreciate you helping me with this. So if I were to call the store and ask HR for an update, what should I say? Would I say something as"Hello, good evening, my name is (BLANK), and I did an interview last Wednesday, and was wondering if I could get an update on my application, please". Along with this, would it be possible if they were to tell me that they hired me through email/text or the target carrerrs thing, or will they only tell me through the phone? Also, I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, I just really don't wanna mess this up.

Thank you
