I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I used to work with the elderly including those with dementia and incontinence. The man was probably aware, even with his dementia, that he was unwell and had had an accident. The mess in the restroom is likely because he couldn't get himself cleaned up independently. Rather than kicking him out of the store, he probably needed to have someone called to come and get him. He might have even needed medical care; diarrhea can quickly lead to serious dehydration in an elderly person - the dehydration itself can make a person disoriented if it's bad enough.
 
Again I say - that could be any one of us one day.

I wouldn't mock someone for something that is out of their control like old-age incontinence, but I'm still going to throw up if someone shits themselves. There's a reason RNs make 40 bucks an hour, which I most definitely do not. Miss me with that shit, literally.

Don't do what you did.
