I'm the one that posted about not liking hard lines my first few shifts. I've gotten used to it now, but I noticed the other day that I'm scheduled for an 8 hour shift from 1:30-10 today and I really don't know if I can do that? Like trying to get through a 5 hour shift is hard enough for me with anxiety and just the fact that my feet and legs always hurt so easily because I never do any type of exercise... I'm also part time so I don't understand how I'm going to get through this shift today. I can't call out or come in late because I'm on that 90 day probationary period :/

Maybe it's just me, but 8 hour shifts feel easier than 5 hour shifts just because in an 8 hour shift you get a meal and an extra break. Also, "Part Time" really only means that you work less than 30-35 hours a week, it doesn't usually have a bearing on how long your shifts will be.

I feel like longer shifts make coming into work more worth my time. Plus, you won't feel as stressed getting your zone done because you'll have plenty of time.
stress about zone ?? the zone will still be there tomorrow and in one hour a guest will mess up what you have already zoned.
I stress when we only get half of a 1,000 piece FDC truck pushed to the floor and there is still 4 pallets of food in the coolers expiring as we speak. Food, juice, eggs, yogurt only have a shelf life of about 2 weeks, so it needs to go out to the sales floor ASAP. Produce, salads only have a shelf life of about 5 days. this is STRESS, come work in my shoes for a day, then let's talk stress.

Oh my apologies. Salesfloor TMs never experience stress. All areas of the store have stress. Just because grocery has different stresses than salesfloor doesn't mean that their stress is unwarranted. I'm sorry, but your post was rude and uncalled for. Go try to one up someone else.

I won't work less than 5hrs. I drive 40 mins to work. They can respect me enough to schedule full shifts or I can find something else.

I hear ya! I had a 3 hour shift this week. The LOD was confused and told me he hoped someone would call out so I could stay and make coming in worth my time. Lol.

I hear ya, I live close and don't mind the short shifts, in fact on my team I don't mind trading a longer shift for their short one.. Or they just make their shift longer cause of the drive.. I got back issues so shorter shifts some days are really nice.

To the OP: You will get used to the longer days, and get some really comfy shoes - they are worth $$$$.. And don't be afraid to spend money on good work shoes..

Those dr scholls sport or work insoles are life savers. Ever pair of sneakers I own has them.

Part-time doesn't mean that you work shorter shifts. It means that you're scheduled for less than 35 (? - someone correct me if I'm wrong)) hours per week. I'm part-time but still tend to work 8-hour shifts on Sunday and Saturday.

Also, by the way, Steritech is here.

I loved 8hour shifts. You can actually get most or all your work done. 4-5hr shifts you are running around trying to zone and reshop in a failing attempt.

Physically, I loved working on the floor better than cashier. Standing in a cashier well for 8hrs is backbreaking.

Perhaps other stores explain it different, but we explain it the same as some other retailers. Any position that is not Team Lead or "above" in Pay Grade is considered part time. In these part time positions, you might get a qualifying number of hours for benefits, and if you do and you get them consistently you can keep your running average hours above a certain threshold and "earn" benefits. These benefits at one point in time were labeled part time and full time benefits, differentiating between the minimum of 19 or 30 hours per week. The use of "part time/full time" is not necessarily supposed to be used to explain these, but it's a rather ingrained term, so it still is used.

That said, you are considered by Target "part time" unless you are "team lead or above [in pay grade]", so any benefit you gain from fulfilling a minimum amount of work hours is not a guarantee as your hours can be cut for the long term disqualifying you. As many here know, if HR doesn't like someone this is something they often love to do.

PFresh Assistant at my store is full-time, I'd imagine a lot of targets have it this way.
So is our Receiver guy.

I had a visit yesterday. Two minor hits, nothing major - sweet.

Same here. But when I was a cashier, I always preferred 8-hour shifts over 5.50 and 5.75-hour shifts. I could deal with a long shift as long as it was broken up into small pieces (i.e. 2 breaks and a lunch).

In my last job, someone worked two 10-hour shifts and they had 5 days off. (and they were considered part-time)
