Archived Anyone ever had rumors be spread?

Recently found out about a really bad rumor about that can do some serious damage to my reputation and work productivity as well as life. I know who it is and ive got multiple people telling me about it. The question is, would hr actually do sometjing about this or should i just go straight to court for defament/slander. Not going into details but the rumor involves me commiting a crime.
Anyone ever have rumors spread? Whatd you do?

Go to hr or your GL. Document all events.

It’s retail... everyone talks shit and I’ve just come to accept it... and I work in HR. If it’s really something that bad go to see them.
