Hello! I am a cashier. My ETL asked me if I was interested in working at the Starbucks in our store. I told her I was intimidated because of all the drinks you have to remember. I'm also scared of having a guest yell at me because I made their drink wrong. Everyone I've talked to about the job said it would be a good opportunity for me, but I'm not sure if I can handle it.

My questions are:
1) Is it worth the 50 cent pay raise?
2) how long did it take you to remember the drinks/how to open/close?
3) how stressful is it?

For the record: in my state, 25 hours a week at $9 (what you're probably making) gets you $363 every paycheck. at $9.50 (the paybump from becoming Starbucks full time) is $981. So if you're just in it for the money, don't do it because it's not worth it.

At my store it was only a .25 cent bump but yeh, some days even a $1 more an hr wouldn't seem worth it.
However, SB closes earlier than the store - some places as much as two hrs earlier so even closing gets you out at a decent time.
Yeh, there's a lot of drinks to remember but the trick is learning the 'basic' drinks - the rest is all add-ons. How quick you learn depends on your immersion method.
Plenty of threads on here about making drinks & marking the cups.
Yes, you will be dealing with the most entitled guests in the store but the work can be fast-paced & fun.
I was an opener most days & had a lot of regulars that I got to know well. They're the ones that can brighten your day.
Some Target baristas have gone on to work for Starbucks corp stores. Sickofspot can elaborate on that.

Welcome to The Break Room.

Not much to add but if you have free standing Starbucks in your town it is a good way to go having the training already.

CA should make more than Spot's minimum wage. Perhaps then they wouldn't always quit.

In the year I've been here, I've trained maybe 6 or 7 CA's and every one eventually quits.

To the OP, redeye and Hardlinesmaster are right. Working at a Target Starbucks is a great way to open doors to Starbucks itself. But, it is HARD work. You have to make both Starbucks and Target happy. The regulars made my job worth while, but damn, the weekend a-holes were rough. It is a lot of multi-tasking. But, it is great experience. Plus, it is so much fun learning how to make your favorite drinks!!!

Redeye, you ain't right! Lmao! I know, it must be nice to avoid the PSL psychos. I hope we don't run out-it gets so ugly.

I do remember last Feb when we FINALLY ran out of most of the holiday flavors (chestnut praline, caramel brulee, pumpkin spice) people were grousing & asking when we would get it back in.
Ummmm, next fall?
It's been SIX MONTHS, people.....
