Hey Everyone,

First off I just want to say that I'm a new TPS, recently just finished training and I'm back at my home store. I've worked 2 closing shifts at my store and I'm already having second thoughts. The reason being the AP culture at my store is dead. Common tasks that AP should do on a daily basis don't happen at my store. Door time sucks in general but at this store is 10x worse. There is very little "team" at my store, its more like everyone has their own groups and thats about it, I truly feel like I'm part of nothing. To be perfectly honest I don't see myself getting past probation... Just to add my coworker and I don't share the same vibes on various aspects of the job. For example we agree time for door time yet she only completes like 30mins where I do the whole agreed 1hr.

During my training I spent 2 weeks at another store(store B) and completed all my AP roles over there. Store B was exactly the kind of environment I was hoping to be in and I loved working there. The AP culture was amazing, TM's would make me feel like I was actually apart of something. All the ETL's loved me and asked when I'd be back. As a matter of fact the ETL-AP actually asked me to cover for a TPS that quit, and he has asked me to cover for next week as well. This is a problem store so they really need TPS very desperately.

Long story short, I really hate working at my home store and LOVED working at Store B. Is there anyway I can transfer to that store? ***The store is in a different district***

Also I am scheduled till 11:45 but LOD makes us clock out and leave around 11:20... so I'm already at a loss of 40mins I should be getting paid for. Is this common? I only ask because it never happened at Store B.

Thanks in Advance if you reply back. I've just been really disheartened ever since I got back to my store so I had to vent. Thanks Again!

You can definitely request a transfer to that store. All you have to do is talk to your ETL-HR / AP and STL as well as the other store's team and get all of the blessings from them. Talk to your HR to get the exact process.

It is common to be cut hours especially right now as it is not all that busy.

I can request one even though its under the 90 day probation period?

Also what do you think the best way would be to go about doing this, I know my ETL-AP will be furious because he had pretty high hopes for me since day 1. Right now we only have Me and the other TPS, so she'll be back to being alone again. Honestly I just don't want to bring it up then have everyone hating me and giving me a hard time because of it. Just incase I can't transfer.

All that you can do is request one. I can't guarentee that it will be approved or denied, but you may have to wait until 90 days. I have seen it approved, but not too often. You will just have to talk to your ETLs. If he is furious, that is part of the job. If it is far enough away, you could say that you are moving.

As a TPS you need to learn to build that culture. It will take some time to turn a store around. It sounds like you and the other TPS split 40 hours.

If your store closes at 11 I have no idea why your being scheduled until 11:45. I would asked to have it changed to atleast 11:30 and take advantage of clocking in 5 minutes early.

Transferring may not be a option right now. The store that hired you did so because they needed a person. You will probably burn some bridges real quick if you start asking for a transfer.

Thanks for your reply, The store is about 15miles away but I don't think I should lie about moving. As for requesting one I'll go ahead and give it a try or even see if the ETL-AP from the other store can also maybe help get the ball rolling or at least make it easier for me to ask.

I tried to build it a few times, Like I asked to do key audits but my store prefers to do devices instead... I asked for my store to start calling out electronics transactions to TPS as we're at the door and should be notified. Instantly I was shot down for both ideas. Apparently devices are more important than keys :/

It took me a little over three months to turn the culture around at my store. You have to be patient.

If you believe key control is a issue then bring it up to your ETL. They have more pull than you and sit in leadership meetings. They should support you on these things.

Large electronics purchases (TVs, game consoles, etc.) should always be called out. Pretty sure it's best practice. Well if it isn't best practice, it should be.

Yeah apparently my ETL-AP did in fact try getting the store to key control and he "stepped" on too many peoples toes which is why he shut me down so quickly. To be perfectly honest my ETL-AP feels like someone that would let go of a KTR because of the paperwork that had to be done for afterwards. Also one of the major camera's in the store which points directly at a high theft item is so blurry the person is literally just a blob and it hasn't been fixed ever since I got hired, over a month ago

You need to be making those hours up a differnt day. AP hours come from HQ not the store. HQ gives AP a set amount of hours for TPS a week and it's use them or lose them.

I felt the same way when I first got hired way back in December 🙂eek: Oh dear lord, I've been here nearly a year already!), but since then I've come to love my store. Everyone at the store I trained at was great, my trainer knew his shit and was really into it, and that's the store I had my orientation at as well due to scheduling issues, so I knew a dozen team members and everyone was really cool. Then I went back to my store and everyone seemed stand-offish (except for my ETL) and just cooler.
Now, since I've gotten to know everyone and made a few friends, I love working at my store.
Admittedly, most of our AP Culture was pretty good, having opened only last October and having a good ETL team, but even then there have been some head-butting: getting team members to sign their equipment out is an on going head-ache, the back room consistently leaves pallets and other stuff left in front of a particular fire extinguisher, and Flow never puts spider-wraps on correctly.
To be honest, myDevises and PDA's are more critical to count on a daily basis, because that's an area that we in AP are responsible for and they're higher value to sell (the iPods anyway). Yeah, if a key ends up missing, it's a major pain in the ass, but all the lock cores can be switched out, and in the end the LOD's are the ones that are responsible for making sure that all the keys are accounted for at the end of the night, and it comes down on them and the last team member to sign it out if it goes missing.
Edit: As for time clock, tell your ETL-AP that the ETL's that you close with are leaving at 11:20, and ask if you could be scheduled through 11:30 rather than 45. That lets him know that he's wasting hours scheduling your for an extra 20-25 minutes that you're not able to use, and it also lets him know if they're leaving earlier than they should be.

If you can find out what's best practice those words said repeatedly to ETLs and STLs are magic.

Obviously all stores are not the same, but key audit seems pretty pointless, or at least would be at my store.

We almost never have keys go missing, and if we do they are returned within a day or two (someone accidentally took them home and then brought them back).

On the other hand we definitely have myDevices, PDA's, and walkies go missing.

TPS at my store make their own schedules. They generally try to schedule themselves during times when there is high theft potential. They usually leave by 8pm or so. I've never seen them close (other than the ETL when she is LOD of course).

Our LODs and TLs handle keys, mydevices, PDAs, and walkies. Never heard TPS get involved, except the other night when a TL left his mydevice sitting on a tub when he went to go backup cashier.
