We need to create a new section called 'Farewells' so that these pointless threads aren't spamming up the general section.

Congrats Foodave! I hope you move on to bigger and BETTER things. I hope I get to eventually make a farewell post at some point.

Feel free to stay and linger. Tell us what it's like on the other side.

I don't know why you'd think they are pointless.
Most of us have higher aspirations than retail and for the folks who have made Target their career eventually they will be retiring so they too will start a thread.

I realize I'm not going to make myself any more popular here by explaining why I said this, but here it goes..

There's a big culture of negativity on this site about Target in general. I realize this is justified for many people, but it doesn't change the fact that we only seem to be pessimistic about most things around here. Yes, I get "this is a place to vent." I just wish we could focus more on problem solving and working with what we are given to make the best out of it, both here and at work. I've been in AP since just before it was scaled way back in 2008. I know what its like to vehemently disagree with corporate decisions to save money. However, despite all the challenges that have been presented because of changes such as these, I think its wasted effort being frustrated over what has happened.

Target is a public corporation concerned about profit for its investors first. If that business model does not suit you well, I'm with ya. But that's what it is designed to always be. We can choose to be angry and bitter over what has been, or we can separate our personal feelings from those of business, and learn to accept things and move on. If the personal is becoming too intertwined with the business for you, maybe its time for you to look for another path in life that may suit you. I know someday I will be.

Threads like this, in my perspective, are just further demoralizing what's left of us as people and as a team. Referring to our place of business as a jail we are "set free" from only serves to degrade our own confidence.

If these threads were truly just about congratulations for another's fortune, they'd be more acceptable to me. But they're always filled with explicit and implicit expressions about how much "target sucks." We don't need to be constantly reminded of that everywhere we turn. Its not productive for ourselves as human beings.

Some members are very good at making members laugh, after a hard day.
Most members here were impacted by Ae09, like you when spot decided to drop specialists. It's forum was created to to teach, learn & vent a little. This is a great place were other tm's talk about their stores, guests, & spot structures or policy. The greatest benefit is learning how to do your job better.

Here is a copy of ae09 & how it was presented to etl's/stl's by spot.

• Low risk stores in org charts 1-3 will transition to a new staffing model. The ETL-AP will be replaced with a non-exempt Assets Protection Leader (APL) and TPS staffing will be removed.
• The ETL-AP (if no ETL-AP, the APTL in stores retaining TPS staffing or APL in stores not retaining TPS staffing) will report to the STL.
• In org charts 1-6, if your store does not have an ETL-AP, your store qualifies to assign 1 additional Sales Floor team leader from your existing team leader staff as a Sr. Team Leader to cover LOD rotations.

RankOne, I had all kinds of snarky things to say when I read your post this morning but you wrote it with genuine and reasonable feelings, putting thought into what you wrote.
You deserved the same kind of response.

Nobody wants to feel bad about where they work.
There is nothing worse than dragging yourself out of bed and wishing you didn't have to go in.
Coming here and seeing someone post that they are leaving and have everyone telling them how great that is doesn't help any.
The problem is that it doesn't have to be that way and it's mostly Spot's fault.

You are in the main absolutely correct that Spot is a public company that owes nothing to its employees and only looks out for its shareholders (some of whom are employees but that's another matter).
And you're right the business model they have chosen is basically to ape Uncle Wally because they seem to think they couldn't survive otherwise.
I think they're wrong and would love a chance to prove it.
Paying your people a living wage, giving them real health insurance and decent hours, putting enough people on the floor to spend time with the customers and do the work ... sure the upper management wouldn't be making the millions and maybe the shareholders would have to take a small cut but I'm willing to bet the vibe would be awesome. (sorry couldn't resist)
But be that as it may, your suggestion that if the current situation isn't our cup of tea then we should find another path isn't that simple.
I know many of us are but the current economy isn't conducive to that escape so we just wish the folks who can well and wait for our chance.

we are just wishing a buddy well, and you could do the same. You choose not to - and I think the best thing is for you to start your own blog, and make you own rules about how it's proper to behave. Your comment doesn't belong in this thread.

I, for one, think of Target as a stepping stone to something better. I still like working at Target, though I liked it a lot more before the '09 changes, which I barely got to enjoy. I love the people I work with on the TM level (yay drinking buddies!) and I think we have an OK leadership at my Target. However, I ALWAYS congratulate other TMs whenever they are working their last day. Even our leadership does, sending them off with their best wishes for a good future for them. The "setting free" and congratulations are, I think, already a part of Target culture on many levels.

Rank, this isn't a company-sanctioned site. Never was. Just a place created by TEAM MEMBERS to vent, learn, ask questions (the good, the bad & the down-right ugly) without fear of reprisal. You may see a lot of negativity but there are a lot of threads devoted to learning areas (guides), leadership, the latest & (maybe not) greatest.
The majority of the negativity stems from frustration at what we old-timers remember about when this company was something to be proud of & what it's now become. They also institute ridiculous protocols that serve little purpose & impede our ability to do a good job. Corp has taken away our dignity &, as a result, made us feel less-than-worthy of a livable wage. We're not asking for an exhorbitant wage but - in their zeal to maximize profits - I've watched raises drop to below what I got at my 90-day review despite 10+ yrs of training 'til I'm global to the teeth.

I'm always glad to see someone leave for better opportunities. Unless you are an etl, Target will never pay a decent living, so kudos to those who do go on to bigger and better things.

I'm sure it'll be nice to enjoy a Christmas NOT working retail.
