I am shy about making this post but I have been wondering about something for awhile.
For those who don’t know, Beauty Team Members are supposed to get something called Gratis. At Target that means we get a gift bag of different Beauty Products to try so that we can make better recommendations to Guests as far as products go.
Gratis is something that other Beauty Stores like Sephora & Ulta give their employees Gratis as well, it’s a Beauty Industry thing from what I understand.
Anyways…
It has been months since I have gotten Gratis.
I actually can’t remember the last time I got it. I had to be over 4 months, and it would not surprise me if it was over 6 or 7 months.
I don’t work many hours due to being on Disability and needing to stay on it for Healthcare (yay expensive meds lol)…could that be the reason I am not getting Gratis? I don’t have a formal accommodation arrangement, this is just something I talked with my ETL about. Basically there is a limit to how much I can make and stay on Disability (and IDK if Private Health Insurance would be affordable or cover my medications that I need to be able to work at all). I am not exactly proud to be on Disability and I don’t talk about it at work, I also don’t mention that I have any type of disability (I have Autism, ADHD, Schizoaffective Disorder, & Sleep Apnea, as well as other disorders as well in case anyone is curious). But at the end of the day I need to be on medication and I know that the meds that work and don’t cause tons of side effects are expensive and often not covered by Private Health Insurance, or are very expensive even with it).
Like I worry about my ETL resenting me because I am not able to work as much as other TM’s and possibly for being slow at time (I just started CPAP for Sleep Apnea so hopefully my speed improves).
I got a good Mid-Year review from my Team Lead. She had nothing negative to say. I also got promoted to Team Trainer as well about a month or two ago.
I don’t want to think it’s retaliation for anything but maybe it could be?
I don’t work at the same time as the other Beauty TM’s so I have not been able to ask them if they are getting Gratis. And I am shy about asking that as well.
However, do you think I should casually ask one of the Team Lead’s about if we are still supposed to get Gratis? I don’t want to make it sound like I am accusing anyone of stealing the Gratis…so I would be very causal about asking.
I did used to get Gratis when I started and I think the last time I got it was sometime at the beginning of this year. It was definitely more than 3 months ago, and I was told we are supposed to get Gratis about every 3 months or so. I can’t remember exactly when I last got it though.
At the end of the day I can live without Gratis because I work for money. I am not going to quit over this or anything but I am curious as to what happened, if anything.
