Hi all! Stumbled across this website when I was feeling anxious about starting. Just had my orientation today. This is my first job, so I've been trying to read some stuff about the job to ease myself. I got hired for cashier, but found out today that they want to cross-train me for flow. Any advice or tips for me as a newbie? Also, what exactly does flow do?

Looking forward to reading your responses. 🙂

Work fast! I'm a replenishment TL, witch is a combination of a Flow TL and Backroom TL. There are major differences between a logistics position and everyother position in the store. Logistics positions are much, much more labor intensive and require an intense sence of urgency. You are putting stuff on shelves for people to buy. It's a necesary role in order to sell things however it's also very expensive to the store to get the products from the truck onto the shelf and the longer it takes the more expensive it becomes. Work fast! I often see cashiers standing around just chatting about what ever, and in reality it's basically ok because they are very restricted on straying away from their post. In logistics it is extremely opposite. Work fast! You are constantly on the move and there is always more to do than the time to do it in. The less you talk the better, in fact don't be surprised to here it's actually the rule and you might get yelled at for doing it. You are new so it's ok to ask questions but really nothing beyond that. Work fast!

Congratulations you've been tricked into a job on flow! Seriously, every cashier that I've seen get "cross-trained" for flow never worked another cashier shift again. Also, backroom is something totally different than flow.

Flow team are the ones who unload the truck and stock the shelves. Depending on your store volume they may do this overnight, at 4am, 6am, or 7:30am.

Get a good nights sleep and wear comfortable shoes!

Greetings and salutations.

Welcome to The Break Room.

Oh my bad, I read it wrong haha! I thought it said "BR flow" and assumed it was backroom. It actually says "BF flow."

Oh maybe that's something different, I've never heard of "BF flow."

If you're doing actual flow, your posted/online schedule will call the shift "Unload - Stocking"
