Hey guys.

So, the other day, I was working the floor and grabbing re-shop at guest services. Both team members working guest services proceeded to ask if I wanted to get cross trained over here because there is a lack of team members over there.

I asked them to explain what I would be doing, any issues or problems they've witnessed working over at guest services.

So, I figured I would ask you guys. What is your opinion on working at guest services. I realize with any new area, it's going to be hard at first, but seriously give me your experiences and thoughts of working in the area and if it's even worth considering getting trained over there.

The only problem I have is, I don't want to get stuck over there, because Sales Floor is my primary workcenter and I prefer it over anything else in the store.

Learning more work centers equals to more hours for you. I do backup all the time, because there is no else after the gstl/GSA get stuck on a lane.

Guest Service is one of my favorite workcenters. It's pretty easy to pick up on the basics, and I'd say about 80% of returns just require you to scan the receipt and follow the POS prompts. You'll want to have a decent knowledge of cashiering, as guests will often come to you to fix mistakes made at the register. They'll also come (or call) asking if you carry certain items and/or their locations, and if you know the sales floor well, this helps! The challenging part comes the other 20% of the time when you get those "non-textbook" situations that need to be fixed, especially knowing when you need the GSTL vs the LOD, and when you can fix it yourself. This eventually comes with time, of course. If you prove yourself over there, you may also be asked to start covering GSTL breaks and lunches, which can give you a ton of knowledge about the front end. I say go for it!

Just wondering, do I discuss getting trained at guest services with EHR?

Talk with whoever does the schedule for the front end. This varies by store (could be the ETL-GE, GSTL, or HR). If your store has training hours available, they may be able to schedule you for a full training shift at GS. Otherwise, they will probably just give you some cashier shifts and try to let you cross-train during the times that it's slow.

I love doing Guest Service! I was so glad that I was cross trained there, it's my favorite thing to do front end. I feel like most people should at least know the basics. At my old store we have a GSA who can't even do a simple return, it's embarrassing.
