Next week will mark 1 year since I've started working for this glorious company😵. In the year I've been here I've cross trained into several different areas of the store, but have always been put back into the SL schedule due to the fact that my TL's/ LOD's think that I am the fastest SLTM. That's the little background that I will provide. Now on to my rant, why do the people who write the schedules always schedule me to close! I kid you not since I started working here I have had about 15-25 midday/ opening shifts with all the others being closing 7.5 hour shifts. This is BS, I can see why it would be this way during the fall/spring semesters because I go to school in the mornings, but throughout this whole summer I have had open avail. and only got 3 midday shifts total. I wouldn't mind closing if it were once or twice a week but having schedules working 6 days a week and all of them being closing, this is just f*****g ridiculous! Even the new hires that have been here for less than a month that I trained have been getting more midday/ morning shifts than me. Here comes the best part about all of this, every time I come in around 2:45p there is always a z rack and a separate cart for RTW and shoes just waiting for me. The reason it ticks me off is because, what the f**k have the mids/ openers been doing the whole time! Oh and to top it off as soon as I get in I have to cover the operator break and then 1.5 hours later guess who covers their lunch? 😀 I just love having RTW, shoes, and accessories/ jewelry everyday especially during BTS season!

Anyways, hope nobody else gets screwed over as much as I do!🙂

You are getting screwed over by having a near consistent schedule and plenty of hours, while others get less than 20 hours and get open/mid/close randomly on random days??

I feel your pain.

Hold on... this rant seems eerily familiar. Is is especially bad on Monday nights? PM me if you get the joke.
If it makes you feel any better this was me last year.

Most of the SL TMs at my store get above 25hrs. Most of the SL team have left the company since I've started, down to about 10 sales floor SL (1 is currently on leave)and 4 operators and 2 that come in at 6 for adj. and other projects. So the 9 left that actually zone/ go backs is relatively a small number given that 6 are new hires within the last 2 months. So yeah I do think I'm being screwed over here with all closing shifts and weekends.

And no before the new hires we did not only have 3 SL TMs, just to clear that up. We had various people hit their 5ths and go on leaves which caused us to hire new people. Our TLs would move HL people over to SL and occasionally the cashiers would stay about 20 or so extra mins after closing to help out in SL. My store sucks.

If you are doing a fantastic job at closing, of course they will keep you as a closer. If you want secondary hours in another department, make sure your HR has a current Learning Plan from you in that area - so they can key it into MyTime. Why would they put new team members into a fast paced time slot when they are "learning" during the slow paced time slots? I'm not encouraging you to slow down by the way.... LOL

This was happening to me and I changed my availability by one hour on a few days and it changed. I'm available until 10 on all but two days. Those two days I'm available until 11. I still get scheduled till ten sometimes but majority of the time I have mids on the days I "can't" close.

We had one team members available until close everyday (on loa now) and she actually likes it because of the consistency. I didn't like it because it turned me into a crazy night owl. But now I'm thinking, that was better than what's going on now. I just closed (well, hours ago) and I have to leave in about 5 hours for an opening shift. I'm going to be a zombie.

Depending on your stores volume and hours available, they may be using their adjacency and brand team members be the openers and early mids. My store is an A volume store and only on weekends and Fridays do we actually have softline team members for morning. Monday through Thursday its process tms covering calls and reshop while they do their projects.

It sucks, it really does, but general TMs are, at this point, shifting to being just closers/recovery.

Dude, I understand your pain so much. I closed for nearly 2 years even after asking a number a time for different shifts. As friends and other coworkers told me, if you're good at closing they're going to give you closing shifts. Like if i'm terrible at it will they give me different shifts? I'd keep pestering. Or our HR team member told me to change my availability for a few nights you can't stay until close. That way if they want you in the morning/afternoon they can't have you close the night before, if that makes sense.

Op, maybe you should speak to your TL(s)/ETL about becoming a Softlines Brand TM? Let them know that you are open and willing to learn new processes and take on more responsibility.
