So i'm going off to college and LOVE MY JOB. I agreed to come back one weekend a month and all breaks/holidays.

Is there a way to work that schedule and just cashier or something at a different target in my college town? Or not a chance?

I've seen it done before, and I'm sure it can be done again. However, it isn't common by any means. From what I've heard, it can also get sort of awkward at times depending on your positions or how different both stores are.

The only recent one's in my area that I'm aware of is a pharmacy technician and some excellent TPS's.

Get with your ETL-HR or STL and see if they can work something out. It'd take a lot of communication and time on both your part and that of your store leaderships. Hopefully you're a top performer 😉

Not to sound too arrogant, but I am the hardlines/softlines/brand favorite. They've told me I'm "not allowed to go back to school" and that someday i will be an STL without doubt. We currently don't have an ETL-HR until Monday and the new one doesn't know me, yet, but my STL loves me and he originally told me i can't transfer and work in my current store so... I'll double check with him again.

Good luck! Check in with us and let us know what happened! This would be some good knowledge to add to the forum, I think.

Anybody in HR, or any former execs on here, have any info?

I knew one SLTM who worked at one store during school and another during summer and winter break. You may be able to work something out.

You can transfer stores. Talk to HR.

Why work two stores? Its going to be very complicated for both you and the HRs. Unless you pick one store setup has your permanent store, and the second store requests you as extra help. But still requires some paperwork between HRs. And it is usually only approved during Holiday times to bring TMs from lower volume stores to help at higher volume stores.

Technically you can only work one store at a time.

The simpliest method is just to transfer to the store in your college town during semesters, and transfer back to your original for the Christmas break and Summer.

You would just transfer to the store in your college town while in school and transfer back to the one at home when there. I have several Team Members that are doing that now.....

We had a girl who would literally work at our store for the holidays and summer. It would be even just 2-3 for Easter until the summer. It can be done.

UPDATE:

I talked to an HR TM at another store because we don't have an ETL-HR currently, and she said that if both stores are on MyTime, theres "An option" where you can "easily" switch stores without transferring. Has anyone heard about this?

You can transfer stores, but the one weekend a month back at the old store is a no can do. No way will two hr in two dif stores agree to process a transfer EVERY month. You can work in one store all school year and transfer to another for summer. You may be able to transfer back for Christmas break if it's at least three weeks. But no way will they transfer you for a 4 day thanksgiving break and once a month.

Everything is easy until you go to do it... And DO NOT quit college because someone said that some day you will be a STL -

Considering you need a bachelors degree to even be an ETL..... Not a chance.

I'm talking about any new information specifically relating to something new with mytime.

We have some backroom tms going to help at a different store this week and they are actually on our schedule for that but with a different store number so I think if both stores are on my time it could be done

This is actually semi-common at my store. We have 2-3 TMs that live near our store but go to school in a bigger city, so they only work at our store during breaks and work at the city store during the school year. We are on MyTime but I have no idea if their other stores are. It's definitely doable.

Thanks for the information!

We had a TM go to school and work in another state and work at our store on breaks as well. Your hr just needs to partner with the other stores HR and work it out.

You transfer back for winter break and summer break, but they won't allow you to transfer back just for a weekend. No matter how much of a "favorite" you are. I've done it the last 3 years.

There was one particular time where I was home for 4 days and a store was so understaffed they allowed me to work a day and then just charged the hours out when I did a punch correction. I guess it depends, but I doubt they'll let you transfer for a weekend every month. Too much time and paperwork.

Bachelors degree for ETL, not necessarily. Bachelors degree for STL, most definitely. Job posting for ETL says bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Some districts enforce the degree requirement more than others. Needless to say, finish your degree!

We've allowed TMs to transfer back and forth but only for long periods of time (winter break, summer break). The issue is that you have to be tied to a store because the hours come from payroll, not corporate Target. Also, since the schedule is created 3 weeks in advance, you'll have to be tied to the store doing the schedule. I don't think you can be tied to both, but again I can be wrong. Switching it every few weekends is a hassle and I don't think an ETL-HR would want to do that all the time.

Keep us posted!

Technically speaking, with myTime you can schedule team members in other stores and just transfer them out for those shifts. So when TMs are doing support help at another store, you can schedule them at the other store through myTime. I believe the hours would get charged out to the other store, but we have never done this soI don't know for sure. No store that I know of does this, and it's highly doubtful any store would do this for someone to be able to work at both stores. You would just transfer to one while at school and transfer back on your breaks. Even when we were getting support help from nearly every pharmacy tech in the district, they were filling out punch correction forms and the hours were getting charged to my store. And this went on for months. No one was using the transfer functionality in myTime.

I would often be "borrowed" to other stores for various projects, coverage, etc. I would fill out a punch correction afterwards, and my HR would "charge" it to the other store.
