My advice is to reach out to a leader or Hr leader at store you want to work at. Be honest tell them your situation and get there advice on what to do.

If sales are down they will cut payroll no matter what their budget is.

Some of folks here will have good advice for you. Some will be a bit snarky and maybe not as nice as you would like. I'm just warning you of this up front because others have come for advice on situations like this and gotten angry with the replies. Please don't do that.

This is sage advice you would do well to listen to. It was totally wrong what they did and they will more than likely do it again, but it will come back to bite them in the butt because trust has been broken and morale cut off at the knees.
