Recently, during the closing shift the LOD wanted to cut labor time so she told four of us that we could leave early (10 minutes before closing). What was funny is that only one person of the group ended-up leaving early....and the other three of us waited in TSC until the time clock reached our official closing time (and the end of our scheduled shift) of 10:00pm. So, not only did we not get our last closing things done we got to leave at the end of our scheduled shift....10pm.

While the LOD thought that she was saving about 40 minutes she really only saved a few since only one TM member left. Now, the three of us who waited it was only about four minutes before closing...the LODs suggestion of leaving early came after the first closing announcement.....so there really wasn't much time left in the shift to leave early.

While it was probably wrong for us to wait for the last few minutes it sure wasn't very fair of the LOD to just tell us to go and that whoever came back in the morning could finish what we didn't get done...well, that wasn't right either.

Making sure that we stay within our scheduled time......well...I find it very humorous at closing time to see our salesfloor TMs leaving at 10pm....and at the front end we're still checking out the remaining guests!

I've never been a fan of that. If you are scheduled to work from time A to time B, you should be entitled to and guaranteed said hours. You shouldn't be punished because your Target store doesn't make the sales goal for the day. That is the fault of store leadership and corporate. They should be punished, not you.

True BUT....when you offer kids (who see it as an opp to get a late start to clubbing) the chance to leave before closing, the last thing they think about is how it's going to impact their check.
They see it only as free/me time.

Where I'm at, your employer has to notify you of any schedule changes at least 24 hours ahead of time. If not, it's your call whether you want to leave early or not when they ask you.

I was offered the chance to give up hours recently because budget was in trouble for the month. I had come into work feeling awful to begin with; I had taken the previous day off because I had some kind of bug. So when offered, I volunteered to just give them the entire day back so I could go home and go back to bed. LOD was surprised but grateful. And then I get coaching because I left the store too early? Seriously?

Coached for leaving when they asked you to leave? WTF?

Sounds like a small series of mistakes and miscommunication on the executive end. Not your fault.

Yep..so much this. IDK how many times ive been frustrated if C+S team manages to get done slightly early and I want them to maybe help zone or help with checking dates or something and they throw a fit. Its like...really? Can you be an adult and just help out, you are here 4 hours only..sometimes only 3 1/2 not like this shift is killing you. I was shocked they stayed 40 min later the other night to finish backstocking the trock

Inb4 Jack saying the same thing about his morning backroom team.

So HR and my STL have been calling TMs and cutting their hours this week. Can they do this so soon and after the schedule has been posted. I mean we are still making over sales.

canwe call the hotline on this one ??

They can ask for the TM to not come in, but I don't believe they can just drop them from the schedule. The TM has every right to still come in and work.

Yes, they can due this in most states. Some states they can't. Just because your making sales goals doesn't mean your making a profit to your bottom line. Store managers will sometimes budget down on sales goals from last year almost expecting a decline in profits due to trends that week. Also you need to look at margin on products. I don't feel like going to advance in detail, but just know that if a store is making sales goal - doesn't mean there posting a profit (being able to pay all bills and having some left over).
