I've seen shoplifters escorted through stores (not mine personally, but other stores, like Macy's, Kohl's, etc.), so what's the big deal with escorting an internal thief? We've also had people who gave us fraudulent scripts arrested AT the pharmacy and the only way to get them out is THROUGH our store. Are we supposed to treat employees with kid gloves? They broke the law...you can't deal with the consequences, don't be a thief! Sometimes, there's no other way to get someone out of the store than to walk them THROUGH the store. One store that I've worked at would have no way to get them out OTHER than to walk them by the check lanes because there's no "external door" to their TSC/AP office, even though it's at the front of their store.
The point is it should be minimized. Some stores like to use it as a scare tactic to deter theft among other employees. AP is supposed to be confidential about investigations, especially internals. It really isn't anyone else's business. No reason to make a scene with it.
May have broken the law. Until found guilty by a court of law, they are presumed not to have. Whilst arrest is necessary to take a person to court, humiliation hasn't been used as legal punishment for centuries, and punishment can only be meted out by a competent authority (the court).
For my part, I've worked at two stores, in the US & Canada, and never been aware of 'The Walk of Shame' until I saw it claimed on this board. Others regard it as common occurrence - clearly all stores are not the same. On a hypothetical level, whilst removing someone from the store may be necessary, intentionally and unnecessarily 'parading' them for deterrence/distress cannot, if it happens, be acceptable. The appropriate deterrence to others and embarrassment to self is the newspaper report of their conviction in court if and when it happens.

If it wasn't for an internal it's entirely possible no one at Target knew about the impending arrest and the ETL-AP was just there as a sort of liaison. If it was for an internal and they set them up to be arrested that way, that's just pathetic and low.
