Today, during work right before I went on my 15, my landlord called me and told me I need to come to my apartment and I live less than 5 minutes away from store and I ended up coming back in about 25 minutes rather than 15. I never called out my break, I just hardlines cover electronics and he didn't ask any questions. What could happen if my ETL HR or TL finds out? Thanks!

It is suggested to let your tl or Lod know. Ap would be watching tv's about it. Spot is known to sneak up on you.

You are not supposed to leave the premises when you're still punched in. I know my APTL would likely not notice or care, but it's still not a good idea.

Odd, I've never been told to not leave while punched in. I always go to the restaurant across the parking lot on my fifteen minute breaks.

It's a rule. Target could be held liable for any injuries or damages you cause while on the clock. Not sure about whether any injuries you get would be considered as an on-the-job accident.

Most APTL's wouldn't care (I sure don't), but sometimes we are asked by an ETL to check how long someone was actually on break for, or if a TM's punch correction is accurate.

Just don't fib on those punch corrections. OP, with your situation, I'd probably tell your ETL what happened, and ask if you should fill out a punch correction so you aren't paid for the 25 minutes you were out of the building.

Legally anything under a half hour Spot has to pay for, so that isn't an issue.

Cca-aly it is, though

Uh... not sure about that. Are you implying people can leave Target for 29 minutes at a time on their break and it's A-OK?

And, even if it's somehow the law that Target has to pay people for their time when they aren't even at work, you're still looking at violating Target's policies and being subject to disciplinary action.

Nope. I'm not saying or implying that it is okay for people to leave Target for 29 minutes. In fact, it should be a CCA. I'm tired of my cashiers thinking it's okay to take 20 and 25 minute breaks because I can't do anything about it.

That said, anything under 30 minutes is still legally required to be paid. I was addressing the pay issue...not the conduct issue.

I love the line "well I had to go and shop for it first"
Repeat offenders get a shopping on the clock and late break coaching.. Nothing kills me more than someone who we're paying to show up and work find every opportunity to avoid it

Oh god please come to my store. We have a cashier that regularly takes AT LEAST 20 minute breaks (and often it's closer to 25) and finds reasons to leave her register 2-3 times during her 4-5 hour shifts. Last time, she had to get some aspirin, she had to check if we had girls' raincoats in stock, and she somehow acquired a pair of shoes she wanted to buy (shoes being on the other side of the store). She also goes to the bathroom 2-3 times every shift, in addition to already taking such a long break. Wtf.

It drives me up the wall! She had some kind of family emergency lately and she just didn't show up for shifts, including her closing shift on Labor Day (left us with THREE cashiers the ENTIRE DAY).

I'll admit I'll extend my 15 minute break to 20 minutes on the rare occasion I get scheduled one of those shitty 5.5 (or even worse, 5.75) hour shifts where you're shorted a lunch but still only get a 15. As long as we have coverage and the walkie isn't blowing up with back up or fast service calls, I say no harm no foul there.

I don't aim for 20 minutes, but if I am working 5.5-5.75 hours and get no lunch I am eating on my break, and if doing so makes my break take a few extra minutes so be it, but on the other hand if I finish eating in under 15 minutes then I'm obviously not going to take more than 15 minutes.
