Archived Gift Registries Moving To iPads?

Do you think this will be a good move (registry kiosks moving to iPads)?

We were supposed to get ours August 11th; update from corporate says our store has been delayed until sometime in 2015.... Ugh. Now we just have have out of order signs taped up on our old registry kiosks. At least the guests can use the iPods though....
 
We were told not to use the iPods because a) the software is out of date...there is a critical software update that needs to be done, but apparently the company in charge of this fiasco has stopped answering the phones. And b) having to start the registry on the iPod...fill out all the info, etc, is not user friendly for someone who is not used to a small screen...so we want to get the iPads in and installed, first. But the chances of that happening are probably between slim and none.
 
We just had one of our kiosks break and they are not even going to pay to fix it because we are supposed to be getting our ipads in soon.

Because in general Apple Tech is much more reliable and easy to use.

And this is coming from a PC guy.

Some GSTL tried setting up a call button once and that started going off, they couldn't figure out how to stop it so it was going off FOREVER.. Some people on the floor didn't know it was a robot and were getting annoyed with robot man lol.

Ah, hopefully my store gets the memo. Both our old original kiosks are out of order/broken and the iPads won't be here until 2015, so I guess that's why they're having us use the iPods. This is an awful rollout
 
They have officially postponed the rollout due to "connectivity issues." I read in one of the threads here that one store that got the new scanners but had to go into the office and break open the box of their old ones so the guests could use them because the new ones did not work.
Today I saw via Redwire that when stores get the new scanners they should keep the old ones in case the new ones do not work. Way to go Spot! Before you do any more cutting edge technology could you please just fix the registers so guests can...you know...like...buy stuff? lol
 
From what I understand, the store wide iPod pda rollout is indefinitely delayed because of the network problems the registry iPods are having.

We had to send all of ours registry ipods in because the network quit responding. Our ETL-GE got trigger happy and had already mailed in all of our old equipment. No registry scanners for two weeks.

A lot of lost sales there.
 
You should be able to find the rollout for your store through RedWire. Our store gets them next month sometime. They are still connected to a printer. Whether or not it is a good move. Idk, the ipods never worked when we first got them!
 
I've heard that the the new Gift Registry Experience Stations (2 iPads and a printer) will be rolling out to stores starting next week, with the final stores in the US being completed in Nov 2014. I'm all for it, the current kiosks spend more time getting fixed than used.

Never heard that message. Ours is always paper jam messages.
 
We have 2 laser kiosks, which report either paper out or paper jam. 1 old POS thermal kiosk that has a bad sensor for detecting the paper roll. It will go from low, to out, to restorcked with a solid "thunk" to the side.

Rubber mallets can fix almost anything.

Since we are getting new kiosk setups, vendors have been told not to replace / repair it
 
Death by plastic fork..... (with 1 tine broken off, cause that's my luck)
Serious red patch on wrists from plastic knives that won't cut anything
Stabbing my eye out with the bent plastic spoon.

What's not to love about FA Cutlery?
 
Our whole district is converting to iPads in September. This project looks like a pain to do, not looking forward to it.

Tell me about it. We're getting the IGS / Starbucks remodel... and they are moving my current kiosks for 3 weeks :fml

I've never heard the thermal paper message either. What is thermal paper used for at the kiosks anyways? We just use regular copy paper in the registry printers, and only the cash registers use rolls of thermal paper for receipts.
 
Our kiosks don't mention thermal paper, though the rolls of paper are thermal paper like the receipts...but they love a good paper jam or being out of paper with half the damn roll left, which is the world's biggest waste of paper I have ever seen.

Thermal paper is used in one of the types of kiosks. It is much thinner and has a roll. It then cuts it into 8.5 by 11
