So I'm a new hire for seasonal position (hardlines) and first day on the floor was a little overwhelming (when you have NO experience in retail). I was shadowing someone and as we are going the terminology used (for someone new) was frustrating. I do have a couple of concerns that I'm hoping someone can assist me with?
1. When starting your shift you grab your walkie/phone must you check in with LOD at time your shift begins over walkie? (LOD this is blah blah starting shift/ whats the correct to way to check in?
2. When zoning (depending what department you working in) your just placing items from basket to their shelves and organizing bringing all items forward etc....
What if you find items that are damaged or opened either from same department or other departments found in your area? where do they go?
3. please explain re-shop and strays?
4. please help understand the devise you use to scan an item to find location of item? how do you read the numbers shown to locate aisle and shelf?
5. LOD is manager you report to? ETL what is their role if you have an LOD?
6. What if you you scan an item and device doesnt give you a location of item? where does it go and what is this called?
7. When looking for a item and device is stating that you have a couple in stock, it is your duty to go and get item for guest all though backroom is so big how do you locate item on device? basically how do read the location.... Its somewhat confusing. Or i just wasn't getting the proper explanation
If someone can help out that would be awesome..
Thanks in advance!

Going with almost 2 months in--

  1. Depending on your store, it's always good to check in with the LOD or your Hardlines TL if he/she is available, often times, someone might have called in and plans change on which area(s) you will be covering in Hardlines.
  2. What you are doing is putting back reshop, in your area, and zoning is pretty much what your described - front and facing items. If you find damaged product, it should go to Guest Services, so it can be properly defected out. Anything that's opened or obviously missing, same thing, and if you can write down where it was found for your store's AP to look into.
  3. Reshop is putting things back in your area, and strays are finding things in your area that belong in other departments.
  4. The devices or Zebras, are your handheld tool that will help you know where your reshop goes, among other things, under the MyWork 2.0 App. When you scan an item it will show an Aisle location (Letter|Number format) next to a green Plus symbol (For Example: G1) when reading the 3 number schematic, always remember it's: Section, Shelf, Position ( For Example: 3-2-4 -- 3rd section of the aisle, 2nd position [starting at the bottom], and the 4th Position ) This will take a bit to get the hang of, but should be easy.
  5. LOD (Leader on Duty) is the person in charge of the store during that time. Usually it's an ETL (Assistant Manager) that's an LOD, but sometimes it's a Senior/Team Lead that has that responsibility of LOD for that particular period.
  6. Usually when that happens, it's because it was put out by mistake, (in that case, ask to see if it can be Backstocked to the backroom) or it's product that's no longer in the system (take to Guest Services, so it can be defected out).
  7. For the most part, Yes. See if you can partner with another Team Member and they'll show you how to pull an item, using your zebra. The backroom is big, but once you can see where the item is located and how to read the location number, you'll get familiar with where stuff is.

*whew* Welcome to the team. Good Luck!
