If you fired all the cashiers(the max of two that are ever on at a single time) the TL/ETLs will just takes over. There's enough of them for that.

You fire the Flow team, you essentially fire people from almost all the other areas. People who usually do Cashier, only work cashier.

Flow is team is the also does the Ad, Plano, Backroom, Instocks, Receiving, and for the 6am+ stores, they are also Salesfloor until 3pm-5pm. I don't want to make any team sound more important than the other but if for some unforscene reason one needed to be scrap, it only makes sense for Cashiers to go first.
 
As someone who has worked pretty much everywhere I can say there are definitely differences between the stress level and workload of different work centers. I will avoid ranking them just because I don't want to start anything.
 
I will just say that I'm a well compensated cashier, and there is no way in hell I'd do it for less. My co-workers are all underpaid.

And not that they are the only underpaid peeps, but how many of you do back-up and go to HR asking to be transferred to be a cashier because it's cake? ........ Ya, that's what I thought.
 
In regards to why some people make well more then min wage starting is because of that competitive wage survey that happens every now and then for certain areas.
My opinion is that min wage should never have existed. A person used to be able to get a hamburger/hotdog for 25 cents and now I have to pay 2.50 for just a hotdog over at target cafe :/

That has literally nothing to do with minimum wage. What you're referring to is called inflation. That happens with or without a minimum wage. Min. wage ensures that people are paid more as costs rise. Without min. wage, you'd still be paying $2.50 for that hot dog, but you might be making only $2.50/hour.
 
I have worked in every work center. I hated cashier the most. Not because it was hard but because it was BORING. Only price accuracy is more boring. Guest service, however, was hard. Backroom and plano are more physically demanding than any other team, in my opinion. (I threw the truck, and they are harder than flow.) When I stepped down from being a TL I asked to be on the Instocks team because you had to know the most about the synergy of all of the teams, there is an accountability level that no other team has, you have to understand how the store actually works. If you do a fabulous job of working the PTM task list (not just half-a**ed zoning and labels) the physical workout is great. I am glad that the team is going away because it was designed to go away. However, the reason for the formation of the team has not been fulfilled....other processes have not been appropriately monitored and fixed. This will be an interesting year.

I did not say that Min wage was completely bad. I am entitled to my opinion, and someone else is entitled to theirs. But when someone says Min wage has "literally" nothing to do with inflation then they make the lady who was talking about making min wage 100k sound smart.

There are numerous articles about sweatshops paying extremely low wages. Min wage does allow for better work environments and more money. On the other hand, Min wage sends many many MANY jobs overseas. In addition, retailers have to mark-up items a lot in order to profit enough to pay the people working there to pay min wage. If min wage did not exist or was never raised so high then prices would not have to be marked-up.

Now I am not saying min wage is 100% at fault for inflation, there is also the fact of the national treasury printing more money then they are taking out of circulation which is also decreasing the value of the dollar.

TLDR: Min wage does affect inflation.
Does that suit your taste commie??
 
I think we can all agree on the fact that we're ALL severely UNDERPAID, no matter the workcenter.

Plus, it shouldn't have to take a state law for Target to offer a livable wage & do the right things for it's employees. (when other employers/retailers do)
It's pretty obvious how Target feels about us, ESPECIALLY after this year (Removable of Health Benefits, MyTime, TL cuts, ect.)

Anybody that's still clinging on in hopes of change for the better or turnaround is living in a fantasy world.
Many have already abandoned ship, & I hope everyone here is actively looking.

There is no career to be made here. Look at TM's working a decade plus making the same amount (give or take a few pennies) as a 16 y/o that just started.

The only thing wrong with the minimum wage is that it should be a living wage.

The real problem is all the deregulation that wall street has recived in the last few decades. #ThanksRonaldRegan
 
The amount of inflation caused by the Federal Minimum Wage could be counted in half pennies for every purchase you make (yes, I know that adds up over time but seriously?)

I think we can all agree that the minimum wage is basically as Chris Rock said "You know what that means when someone pays you minimum wage? You know what your boss was trying to say? "Hey if I could pay you less, I would, but it's against the law.”

It's funny that we're having this conversation on Labor Day.

No, sweatshops do not pay ridiculously low wages. "Sweat shops" are not a thing, its just a slur used to label any workplace with socially unacceptable working conditions.

Your argument that minimum wage sends jobs overseas is also ludicrous nonsense. The alternative you are proposing is Americans being employed at wages that are so low that there's virtually no point in being employed. The livelihood of someone who makes $2.00 a hour is no better than the person who is unemployed. Neither person can afford to live without outside help.

Prices are not marked up due to minimum wage, they are marked up due to corporate greed. Increased wages are not the cause, they are merely a scapegoat. The amount of markup that would be needed to offset paying every employee $22 a hour (what minimum wage would roughly be if it had kept up with inflation since the 60's) is very small.

I live just fine. Learn to budget.

A sweat shop is a place with poor working conditions OR a place that pays less then the labor entitles.
Ludicrous nonsense?? Then why is there huge issues over companies sending labor overseas? Why pay someone here 7.25+ here when can pay someone 15 cents a shirt else where?

Bottom line is when Min wage goes up, the price of stuff will go up, more work will be sent overseas, and people will be laid off.

That you think it'd help our people for us to have the "option" of working for 15 cents a shirt is indeed ludicrous nonsense. What you're promoting is a lower unemployment rate, but a much higher underemployment rate (ie. people who work but do not make enough money to live by doing so).

You are calling me a deluded idiot when you are looking at this at a very basic level. At this point in time removing min wage would be horrible. Yet, if min wage would have never existed I can guarantee prices of everything would be much lower. .. actually I am not even going to debate this with you any longer. You can not seem able to hold your point without name calling or degrading someone due to them having an opinion that differs from yours.
 
Jobs move overseas when workers organize and demand rights.
They move the jobs to countries where they don't have to worry about things like child labor laws, factory safety (always nice to know that the Triangle Shirtwaist fire has been pretty much forgotten) or the right to organize.
Meanwhile they have been doing everything they can to to destroy the working class here in America so retail won't give them problems.
In the process the wealth distribution in this country has become worse than it was during the roaring 20s and we all know what came after that.

I've always felt that it's one thing thing to have your own opinion but it should be an intelligent, well informed opinion.

In some areas, and some circumstances one might be able to live on minimum wage. I live in a low(er) cost of living area, and those without two jobs struggle. It has nothing to do with budgeting in most cases. If rent is high where you live, what are you going to do? And it just isn't target, the guy that made my sub last night works at a pet store chain too.

I have coworkers that own houses, houses they are on the brink of loosing now because they have been lucky to now get 14 hours a week. They were doing fine overall until the mytime hour cut. I have co-workers that can't pay all their rent with the cuts, and they aren't living in luxury to start with.

But most of all, don't assume that the cost of living is the same everywhere as what it is for you.

No one is forcing them to live there. I know that is a shallow way to look at it, but I am an honest man even if it means that times I have to be mean.

At my store, even with the hours being cut, it seems like the people that are great at their job are getting exactly how many hours they want. The people that are so-so are the ones getting hours cut.

You're assuming raising wages requires raising prices significantly because when prices have risen wages have been cited as the reason.

You can't get more basic than that. I'm looking at it from a mathematical aspect, which proves that the view you have is nonsensical.

Paying all employees $20 a hour would require very minimal price increases to offset the losses. The difference to the customer would be nigh unnoticeable.

The problem is that if Target was forced to pay everyone a minimum of $20 a hour they'd raise prices far more than necessary to offset the losses and use them as an excuse knowing that most customers wouldn't realize they were being duped.

That doesn't make minimum wage be the issue, it makes corporate greed the issue and minimum wage the scapegoat.

Precisely why we're not allowed to talk about our pay at work, lol.

Actually, what employers don't want you to know is that you are allowed to talk about your pay at work. They just don't want you to because they are afraid it could lead to some sort of organization (or having to pay fairer wages).

So where should they live? Mississippi? I do believe the poorest state in this country. A lot of places that are cheap to live are cheap because no wants to live there because there is no work there..

I learned a long time ago, you pay a higher rent cause you can move where rent is cheaper but you spend it back in gasoline real quick or public transportation, not to mention the time to commute.

I will also tell you it takes money to pick up and move somewhere..
