Hey, I just got hired for a seasonal Target job. My orientation is coming up — do they usually confirm your availability during orientation, or should I let HR know before I start? Also, if I need to adjust my availability, what’s the best way to handle it?

Hey, I just got hired for a seasonal Target job and put that I’m available all day on my application. The thing is, I currently work another part-time job that switches my schedule a lot, so I don’t know exactly what hours I’ll be able to work. My orientation is coming up — do they usually confirm your availability during orientation, or should I let HR know before I start? Also, if I need to adjust my availability, what’s the best way to handle it?
Adjusting your availability within 90 days of being hired, especially as a Seasonal hire, is usually a no-go. You were hired (partially) based on your availability. Changing it now means that you were hired under false pretenses. Expect that all availability changes will be denied, unless they have poor business acumen, just really like you, or your changes somehow increase your availability.

Ooh, really shouldn't have said you were available all day because you're not really. If you're still available at times your store has difficulty keeping fully staffed, it might work out okay. But if you're not available at high-demand times, you might find yourself left off the schedule. No reason for them to invest time training you if you're not going to be available when needed.

You were hired based off the availability on your application so, changing it now would be a no. The exception being if it benefited Target. If you put you couldn’t close, couldn’t work weekends and now you can then that would be ok.
