Hello everyone!,

I had my interview earlier last week and was offered a position. I used to be fairly reckless and was convicted of a DUI a little over 5 years ago. Does anyone have any experience with getting hired with a record? I cleaned up after I was arrested and the only contact I had with authorities was for a traffic ticket.

I was offered a position as a Express Team Member. The job description on the site is fairly vague. What responsibilities does the position come with?

Target metro convenience stores - Take a Tour of the First TargetExpress

If you under a conditional offer, they pretty much hired you pending paperwork. But just be honest for any follow up interviews or paperwork. Worst thing you can do is lie or withhold information.

The conditional part is passing a background check.

I'm not sure how it works when there's something there but it was already disclosed.

Express TM's learn a little bit of everything. The whole thing with Express stores is that they are tiny. You'll gradually pretty much everything in the store, from my understanding.

You should be fine. Typically a misdemeanor conviction will not stop you from being hired.

Violent and sexual felonies are usually a no.

I had a guy with a fourth degree assault conviction pass his background check today

I have job offered applicants who revealed that they had DUIs in the past. Most of them cleared background. Follow the instructions on the Previous Conviction Questionnaire (not sure if all states have this form) carefully and answer honestly. If the applicant lied on the form, then chances are not good for their background check.

I assisted with staffing for an Express store before. The STL said that these TMs learn every work center. You are not just cashier, sales floor, backroom, etc.

It was awhile ago but I also had an applicant with an assault conviction who passed her background check.

Yeah he was very remorseful. Sounded like a young man anxious to move forward in life. Everyone deserves a second chance

One of the difficult parts in helping people with disabilities find jobs is that sometimes you have people who have misdemeanors and even felonies that are due to their disability.
It can be a real challenge explaining that to potential employers especially when they are for somewhat unusual things.
Most folks can understand a DUI, it's a little harder to explain why you attacked a bus with an ax.

The problem with background checks is they don't always show the circumstances around why they happened.

Thanks for all the info and greetings!

I passed the background check, yay! I have orientation next week. I'm glad that google led me to these forums. I don't feel absolutely lost and alone since I'm a member of these forums. Stoked!
