Seasonal Hire in January?

Hi everyone, I applied as a regular part time TM but I got counter offered to be a seasonal part time employee. I accepted and was supposed to start late December but that didn't happen. Since the holidays are over and I've seen on this forum most seasonal employees get let go or asked to stay on by January. I was wondering is it normal/common to get hired as a seasonal employee in January? If so, what's the normal length I could be looking at before they ask me to stay on or they let me go?

When speaking with my HR she told me that with covid they are allowed to extend seasonal thru sometime in April. The ones who were just flat out terrible we've already let go of.
