I was just promoted to GSA from electronics but my store said they don't want me to start training for the position until after the holidays. The other night we were in desperate need of making red cards goals so of course every five minutes the GSA was on the walkie talking to us about coming up to get red cards for ourselves. While I was going through the checkout lanes to pay for my food on my lunch break I went up to one of the new seasonal cashiers and she was in the middle of doing a red card application so I waited. It took me a second to realize though that their wasn't a guest there and she was inputting the information herself on the register. The thing that also didn't make any sense to me was that she was inputting information from a piece of paper that she was holding. When she saw I was just standing there she said she was closed and I said oh, then the GSA came up and said yeah she's closed you gonna have to go to another lane. So I did, and now I'm thinking, should I say something to someone, is it my place to speak to that cashier, or should I just let it go and keep on working as usual.

I would metion something to your GE or AP. We actually had to fire a gstl of ours last year for doing this. He personally would get 5 or 6 red cards a shift. One of the cashiers noticed that he was inputting info from a piece paper, turns out that he was using names of family members and friends to open red cards to meet the weekly goal

Definitely mention it to AP. Chances are that the cashier was inputting a made-up SSN, but that "fake" number might actually be someone's SSN. We had a GSA that would sign herself up for fake Red Cards when we were doing poorly, and she got fired for it.

This.
We had a GSTL termed (as well as an exec that condoned it) for doing bogus credit apps.
He was logged in using cashiers' speed slips to throw them off his path.

I'd keep it between you & AP in case it's not what you thought it was but pretty sure it IS what you think it is.

Pull an AP team member aside and let them know or call the hotline if you don't feel comfortable talking to them. What they are doing is against the law even.

All because stores are pressured to get some made up amount of red cards. Story after story of people being termed. Obviously it's wrong, but in an ironic twist, it's fitting to have people making up applications for redcards this way. It somehow seems fitting.

The irony is that next year those fake applications will be taken into account, so their goal will be raised, screwing them even more.

Then we shall have to double the number of fake accounts next year! In a couple years after this geometric progression, the goal will be around 2,438 red cards a day. Lol, I can just hear the management then ....

Come on team, we can do it. Bob, I need to stand at register 12 all day putting in fake accounts. I have a master list of every social security of each deceased person from the cemetery down the road.
