So, I made the mistake of not asking for a day off in time, and surprise! I got scheduled. I know this is 100% my own doing, but I simply cannot work this day.

Anyways, when I saw I was on the scheduled I put it on the swap shift board, but it's going to take a freaking miracle. It's a Saturday, ad take down shift and I went through and couldn't find a single person who was available, not a minor, or trained to do it. So I'm pretty SOL, but i'm already feeling guilty leaving them short handed. I asked my HR person what I should do and she just told me to ask around and if I can't find someone I'd have to call out.

So, that's it? She didn't seem mad or anything (probably because she doesn't close that night!). Will the fact my name is on the swap sheet cause any problems calling in?

Oh! And if it's matters this will be my 2nd call out, the 1st was like 9 months ago, so I don't usually call out. What's target's attendance policy?

Thanks guys. 🙂

Your right she probably did not care because it is not her night to close/deal with it.

I would get with the LOD that is closing that night. Let them know you will be calling out. Your reason is private but if you feel it would be helpful to share you can. They might have an idea who could take the shift so the team will not be short handed.

Make sure you request the shift off next time. While 2 call outs might not be a lot in 9 months if its the same LOD she or he will remember.

Alrighty, thanks again. Definitely won't forget to ask for time off again, that's for sure. I'm going to double check the schedual and see if someone slipped passed me, maybe ill get lucky!

That's good you're at least checking to see if you got someone to sign up for it. If someone does you should take the initiative to make sure HR or the LOD changes it in the computer so it's off your schedule.
