Archived Store Walkout

assuming no ETLs or TLs are part of the walkout, then they would call them all in to run the store. If it was literally every single store employee and leader, then I think the district team lead would put up some kind of a notice stating "due to technical issues, this store is unable to open today - we deeply regret the inconvenience, the nearest target stores are...."

Call the district for support, get the store up and running ASAP (depending how close the nearest stores are) and then likely everyone involved with it would either be immediately fired or performanced out ASAP.

If this happened at a Super Target, the store would probably just close. That's a lot of heads to replace short notice.

Granted if it happened in MN they would probably have corporate employees start manning the store as well.

If the store was already open on Black Friday, for about 45 minutes, then every employee just walked out? First, the store would be looted. It's likely that many guests would be injured, incurring lawsuits to Target. Somebody would call corporate & they would call the police. They'd close the store for recovery. Everyone who walked out would be fired. They'd re-open in a few days with a new crew of mostly ETLs & TLs from nearby stores.

I would expect criminal charges to be filed against the organizers of the walkout.

This would never happen....but the what ifs give you something to think about for sure

Uhh, what charges? Theft is illegal, but the people organizing the walkout wouldn't have organized the theft, that'd be the guests. They'd have fucked Target out of massive amounts of money, but they wouldn't have broken any laws. Going on strike is certainly not illegal.

I would love to see this happen somewhere. Workers these days as a group are either too stupid or too cowardly to stand up for their rights. We need to have a worker's rights revolution in this country and the way for that to start is with labor strikes and work stoppages. Imagine if every single team member showed up for a Black Friday open and just refused to work. Ever since Reagan murdered this country's unions the middle class has started to vanish along with benefits and pensions. It's a sad state that we live in.

I don't know the law but gross negligence, disregard for public safety, willfully creating a dangerous situation. I'd compare it to screaming fire in a theater.

If a group of adults....decide to walk off of a job...I don't see how that could possibly be against the law. The people who walk off of the job are not responsible for the actions of other adults. Now, if on the way out...all the team members shouted....steal what you want...we don't care, then I could see your point . We all have the freedom to walk off the job... Grant it being I seriously doubt that a whole store would walk out anyways...we are not a hospital, saving lifes etc...we are selling toilet paper etc.

No just a dude living in a "right to work" state that used to be a union stronghold. I have seen how relative wages were significantly lower for my father than my grandfather and how they are now lower for me than they were for my father.

I could imagine the AP ETL or even an APTL would have certain legally binding requirements before they quit, they may have them as registered security agents at a store. Bad security guards can be held liable for property damage if it is believed that they intentionally ignored potential damage. As for just your regular run of the mill TMs and hourly TLs, NLRB regulations at the very least allow all workers the ability to strike, even if they live in right to work states. If you and your coworkers claimed that you were walking off the job in an attempt to get more pay, then you'd probably have solid legal protection.

This. The only professions where striking can be against the law in the US currently have to do with states or other localities that have made it illegal for police, firefighters, certain transportation workers, etc. to strike. Nowhere in the states is it illegal for retail workers to organize and execute a strike.

If a bunch of Target TMs went on strike, they would just be fired and Spot would hire a bunch of 16 year old kids to replace them.
