I think sometimes people forget that those on the line have absolutely no control over the order things come down, which impacts how the skid is stacked. Sure, it sounds great to say "put the big/heavy boxes on the bottom, and the small boxes on top"...but when nothing but small boxes come for the first 10min and then you're flooded with heavy stuff all of a sudden, you're screwed! You can't take long to rearrange or else you'll make the line backup. Sure, there are workarounds, but at some point you're bound to just hit a wall.

Nothing was ever said to me, but I think I was probably taken off the line due to the rage that started overflowing. It was suffocating and panic-inducing to work with people who moved at a turtle's pace, which ended up impacting everyone on the line. Eventually I couldn't totally hide my frustration anymore. I never yelled at anyone or anything, but it still totally showed.

Honestly, I've only been off the line maybe 4 months, but I bet I would totally flounder at first if I tried to hop back on now. It's definitely an acquired skill!


And it's probably not a coincidence that all of the major blow ups/screaming matches I've seen in my time at Spot have happened on the line. Between the relentless pace, the constant ringing noise of the line, and the heat, it's a pressure cooker that pushes people- some of our absolute best workers- over the edge.
 
Our Flow Leader and LOG-ETL are on vacation, so our current BR-TL who was our former Flow Leader/slavemaster operated today. Has anyone performed a successful exorcism?
 
My ETL wanted to use CVS Pharmacy's documents bin (which has been outside for a while, I don't know why) to store some back to college rugs. That bin was brought inside and put in a hard-to-reach corner of the steel by the end of today because what the hell is wrong with him. Maybe he says insane shit like this to motivate people to do things so his plans don't have to happen? I'm wishing that's the case.

Also I don't know who in this store had a bad experience with a compactor and decided to discourage putting things in it but I've decided my next losing battle is going to be trying to get people to stop salvaging out things that should be thrown away. Like Sterilite with severe structural damage. Or display strollers. Then again, overheard my TL telling somebody he's making sure his team knows the compactor is "only for Styrofoam."
 
Last place I worked at ONLY cardboard (not cardstock, packing foam, plastic sheeting, etc) went into the baler.
Bales were also sold to a recycling company even back then.

There is a certain % of other material that is allowed in a Bale, cant remember who told me that though

I had a 'guest' (I'm convinced it was a prank) call me in Electronics today and tell me that he bought an iPod Touch for his son a few days ago and that he needed help. I was like, okay, what can I do for you, is it broken, do you need to return it, etc.? He then goes on a wild rant about how he caught his 12 year old son watching porn on his iPod and asked me what to do, like he was pissed. I told him he needed to set up parental controls through his internet, or he needed to take it away from him. I was polite about it (he talked about how people helped people in India or wherever he said he was from) but he was like, 'you don't know shit', and just started yelling, so I hung up on him.

Like, how is it my fault you didn't teach your kids that watching porn at 12 isn't okay? Work on your own parenting skills because calling a freakin' Target with your problems.

Getting ready to leave today and the presentation TL asks me if I knew about the endcap of fireworks still left in seasonal. When all the other fireworks in the store have been taken down for over a week. And the fireworks pickup happened yesterday morning.

...Thanks a whole lot. Going to ask her Monday if she knows about the DVD shipper with a set date of July 10th I found in the backroom.
 
Need to have a friendly chat with the front end about not leaving frozen food sitting on my desk, even if it is on recall. Came in today and had to clean up a puddle of brownish liquid. Just need to find the time and brainpower to write a note that doesn't start with "Listen up you fuckwits..."

Denied my first order today because I'm sick of Pepsi over-ordering and then hearing everyone from the salesfloor TL to the Pepsi merchandiser complain about it. A couple hours later, the salesman shows up to ask why I did it and show me all the outs that won't be filled. That's great dude but you tried to bring in 8 cases of 2-liters when we're sitting on a full shelf and a decent amount in the backroom. That's 64 bottles, of just one flavor. I don't care if its on sale, or that your philosophy is "better to have more than you need than run out." Oh no, now we won't have those 4 12-packs of Orange Crush! Well, we also won't have the several additional cases of regular 12-packs you ordered, on top of the piles already in the store.

Yesterday I left some packages un-checked in because Receive was acting up and the items inside were not on file and I didn't have time to figure that out. Come in today and they're sitting on the salesfloor. Sitting on z-racks waiting to be pushed. Paperwork and packaging is gone. I feel bad for assuming the ETL-LOG is behind this but its probably a safe bet.

Sounds like my day, Audited 4 aisles of small appliances for missing displays, ordered them, Built 2 Pallets for Cat and Jack set, one split for the boys set, the other for girls, Split up all of the new Infant Displays, not by POG, but by the Actual aisle number, completely cleaned the fixture room and organized about 30 mini-waco's and labeled them. MySupported the 6 tables and 100% of the signing I am missing for the Cat and Jack set, got responded to with"We'll lets just wait and see what happens" response.... Sent an email to every ETL/STL/TL that should know, about it with a ticket number for the mysupport...

In the end I got asked where a microwave display was that was unorderable and a MySupport about the issue which replied "Don't sell this item, it is a Display!" (ei. they didnt even read my MySupport). And was asked to come in tomorrow on my day off to Set Cat and Jack 80% of which we aren't even sure I will get.

Fuck it.

Our receiver never says no, so we have a permanent spot for expired soda in backroom. Dumb lol

I have a suggestion. Take a couple unused wacos, write in permanent marker "Recall frozen holding for MIR" or something similar on them and then put them in your freezer on the shelves where you have the freezer donation wacos by the vendor area. I happen to know what your freezer looks like so don't put them exactly next to the donation one to avoid confusion. Just slide them down the shelf. Most of the recalls lately are freezer items it seems, but you could do something similar in the cooler. Then let EVERYONE KNOW that's where that stuff goes, not on your fricking desk.

I kicked the metal desk so hard that id dented one of the legs. (no one noticed lol)
 
Came in this morning to a line full on both sides with toy transition. A trailer with the line still inside, a bale, puddles of broken jam jars, plastic bags everywhere. Bales outside in places they shouldn't be, like the far side of the storage units. FDC pallets outside. A recall for bedding with 2 pages of DPCIs to look through. Frozen pizza defected out on the 21st, packaging still intact. A pile of repacks in front of an empty pallet because fucking flow team, that's why. A pile of salvage because I have absolutely nowhere to put pallets right now. An ETL who keeps asking me when I'll get to the backroom's defectives (because that's my job now?) and seems to be ignoring the mess that is the line. A PDA that I couldn't reboot to hopefully unfuck the nearly unresponsive touchscreen. I had to press very hard on the screen (to the point I was worried I'd break it) just to get anything on the bottom half to register. Somebody decided it would be a good idea to make the milk pallets disappear and just stack the crates against the wall so tomorrow I get to hear everybody complain about how lazy the milk driver is for not taking the time to collect and palletize them.

Somewhere while trying to deal with all this I got a little frustrated and hit the overhead door (which since Thursday, has been trying to kill someone every time it opens). Cue having to get x-rays to make sure I didn't break anything. Waiting on the final verdict, but for now I'm wearing an awful brace for the next few weeks and waiting anxiously for the bill.

Lesson of the day: I need to learn how to count to 10 and take a deep breath. Or two. Maybe three.
