so I'm a HL TM who accidentally picked up a shift in the fitting room. I picked up 2 but I gave one away and figured I'd just suck it up and take the other one. Our FR TM walked out last week and HR offered me the shift and didn't tell me what they were for (she tends to do that so we'll say yes).

Long story short--I'm freaking out. I'm terrible in SL and since FR is the operator, I have to answer the phones. I'm terrible at the phone when I cover electronics breaks and I'm losing my crap over tomorrow morning.

Anyone have any advice on phones? That's the big thing for me.

Just put one foot in front of the other and carry on.

Phones?

Answer them...

Orrrrrr not! 😉

I think the biggest thing when on the phone is to remain as calm as you can be. Most of the time, if you can just approach it calmly you should end up fine. Now if there's something you can't immediately take of and need assistance, just let them know to hold while you look for some help. Take it one call at a time, and you'll be able to to knock it out.

Thanks guys. I think I'm just nervous about transferring the calls. Our FR TMs are really good so I don't want to disappoint. One of the TLs is going to be training me so I've got that, but still.

For future reference, as I assume the shift has already passed at this point: Think of it this way - All the "great" operators were new and nervous at one point too. Asking for help is not a bad thing. It shows you care about doing your best.
