Archived Was "talked to" about my work attire today? Has this ever happened to you?

My shirt shrunk a little in the wash last night, so if I moved my arms up too high it would expose about half an inch to an inch of my midriff. It is not a crop top or anything, it would just ride up if I wasn't careful. I've worn this shirt pretty much every day since I started, but today I was talked to by a TL about it. She didn't make it out to be a big deal, but she did say she wanted to have the conversation with me and that I should wear a tank top underneath next time. I just tucked the shirt into my pants and went about my day.

She didn't tell me who complained (assuming a bitchy coworker, not sure who) , but I just found it soooooo incredibly ridiculous. I jokingly asked, "Was it an old person?", but she didn't say anything. A woman who works in HR was staring at me a lot, so I thought it could've been her, but I don't see why she wouldn't just confront me herself instead of getting someone else (especially a random TL) to do it. She also acted really friendly towards me later on, as if nothing was wrong. I'm still under my 90 day period, I hope this doesn't cause any trouble. Have you ever been confronted for you work attire?

We had a cashier talked to for showing too much cleavage after several moms complained (several teen boys frequented her lane a lot) & several TMs talked to about saggy pants either showing boxers (leadership didn't CARE that they were RED, STILL not brand) or butt cracks (ETL-HR addressed the culprits on the spot).

I guess a guest could've complained about me, but damn, I didn't know an inch of midriff could ruin someone's day so hard haha. I also feel like an LOD would've came to talk to me about it, not a TL.

I have heard thru the red vine tms were spoken to about black sweatshirts, butt crack, no butt crack but undies hanging out, too much boobage and ripped pants in inappropriate locations.
 
I wouldn't read too much into the situation. The TL wanted to make sure you were aware that your shirt is now too short. You are definitely aware of it and I assume will follow their suggestions.

That's it. You're not in trouble and you're not going to be let go at the end of your probation.
 
Something similar happened to me once, I had these tight khakis I would wear all the time. Well once I bent down near a cash register to pick up something and apparently they went a little too low (I was completely unaware of this) and some lady went up to guest service and complained about me. (Thanks for telling me first...) So the guest service TM up there pulled me aside and nicely talked to me about it. I was super embarrassed but was glad it never made its way to HR or a TL or anything. Needless to say, never wore those pants again.

Haha that's good to hear. Your story kind of convinces me a team member complained about me, since there's no reason why the TL couldn't tell me it was a guest. I'm super nice to every TM, I don't really get why someone would want to cause me trouble over something so minor.

Yeah... Some people are just weird. I've seen ETLs wear appalling things. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even though it sounds like it was a complete overreaction, just to be safe maybe you could wear a tank underneath/different shirt.
 
I had an ETL get on me once about wearing my non-red jacket on the floor between stockrooms. I was pulling P-Fresh and going from cooler to cooler.

If I were that ETL, I'd be more worried about the plumber's crack entire ass.

I don't get the outrage about that at all. I'm pretty certain no one would mistake you for a guest doing some voluntary pulling. I don't wear red shirts anymore, but occasionally still wear khakis. People still think I work for Target.

Said ETL always finds something about which to get on my case. One of those nitpicking micromanaging types.
 
The first thing I did when I took flow was force my team to wear belts. If I saw underwear they just got sent home, it was that simple.

They complained at first but eventually they got the point, if they couldn't afford a belt I provided a brand new pair of suspenders free of charge.

It's moronic to watch your team walk around pulling their pants up all day, every time they pull up their pants that's an item on the shelf, x500 times a day.
 
Once a guest complained they saw my butt crack ( you could barely see it) but guests thought it was offensive. I didn't have a belt on me so the TL suggested I use the cardigan I was wearing to put around my waist ( it worked) I bought a belt on my break and everything worked out fine.
 
You people need to buy pants that go to your waist instead of the ones that cut at the hip. It is the cure to butt crack and the cure to happy trail exposure. If your shirt still rides up and exposes your abdomen then, your shirt was probably made for Kelly Bundy lol.
 
Once a girl was doing go backs in cosmetics (so lots of getting up and down) flashing some crack, and a guest complained. It's so fucking stupid when guests do that. Unless it's just blatant ass hanging out, then who cares. It obviously isn't on purpose.

I've had guests rudely refer to me by some female features of mine, but didn't really complain about my clothes. As far as I know, no one's complained about that at least.

It's extremely hard to find those kind of pants. At least, it was when I was at Target. I preferred those, actually.
