Hello all!
I've been working for target for a few months now and generally like it, but I do have a problem with the way my store is scheduled.

They mostly schedule flow team till 11am, but most of the time there's too much push / autofill to finish on time, not to mention we zone our own areas and do our own backstock. We are not allowed to leave until the etl walks our area.

I'm all for getting more hours because I'm usually scheduled 30, but I always end up staying 2 hours late every single shift, sometimes more. This makes it difficult for me to make plans during the week as I never know when I'm getting off.

I also feel like too much is expected of certain employees. Whenever I'm scheduled for flexible fufilment I get no help. Last week I walked into 164 orders (over 300 eaches) and the first thing I told my etl was I'm going to need some help, I even communicated this to the LOD, I did not get help and between pulling all the orders and doing all of the hourly picks I didn't even get around to packing by 4. I told my manager packing was not finished and that I was leaving.

I got called to the office the next day and got in trouble for leaving that stuff in the back but I feel like they should have just gave me the help I required instead of always trying to squeeze an impossible amount of work out of me. On the other hand if one of the workers they perceive as not as strong has a FF shift they get scheduled during slow days and will often get help anyways, and they always get to leave on time.

I would like a shift where I'm not constantly stressed out about not finishing.

Some days I just want to leave on time, but I don't want to be a complainer

I guess I just want some different perspectives on this.

Document everything. I use my phone to take pictures. Take pictures of the screen on the Zebra and all the carts of product you picked. Note how many Drive Up orders you had, too.

Communicate through out the day. Keep your Leader updated. Document that, too.

I give updates in the morning, at lunch, and at the end of my shift— when my work load is heavier than normal.

For SFS, when this happened to me, I started keeping track of how many batches I completed, since some of our leaders didn't comprehend that more orders drop in during the day, and I started documenting things that put me behind (massive FAs, having to dig through truck to find stuff, etc), and it stopped eventually.

At my store, we are not required to stay past our scheduled out time. Every time I'm asked to stay and my schedule outside Target allows for it, I do stay because I agree with you about getting extra hours. But I don't feel bad when I have to leave on time either.
As long as you keep staying, they'll keep scheduling the way they are. They need to schedule smarter.

My ETL would schedule short hours for some of the SFS team on the weekends. Her theory was that if it wasn’t busy she would save payroll but if it was busy “we can always have them stay”. And of course when it was busy no one would stay...🙄
