My SD wants to promote me (barista trainer) to S&E TL.
I don’t really like doing front end, but there’s no position for my actual passion which is Starbucks. I don’t want to stagnate in my career though.
I feel like I could find a passion in whatever I am doing however front end feels daunting because I don’t know much about it and I don’t want to abandon my Starbucks team who is in need right now since they’re struggling and the Sbux TL doesn’t do anything to help the team succeed.

When promoting in any industry, you’re going to to have to ask the “tough” questions. One of the toughest things about being a leader, making the tough decisions. In regards to your own personal development in your career, ask yourself “Am I up for this?” Reason why I said ask yourself is because once you’re promoted to TL, there’s no more “oh my team needs me”. You’re now the one who is delegating assignments to be completed. You’re the person who is now holding people accountable. You’re now the person who is helping develop the “next” you. You will now be management. I’m by no means saying walk with “a stick up your a$*.” I’m saying that you will be responsible for more than one area. Seems like you have a heart of Starbucks and that’s all fine and well. The best thing you can do is train your replacement and learn as much from your current leadership as possible. Ask plenty of questions. Be prepared to take constructive criticism. Know your strengths. Know your weaknesses. Tailor your messages to your audience. Give respect to earn respect. And for the love of God, have a Work/Life balance. Good luck 🍀
