The HELP button on the registers used to make prompt announcements over the walkie-radio, such as "Carryout needed at Lane 1". Any reason they no longer do? Anyway to fix this?

Just curious...I'd love to have this function restored!

It's because you have Help Alerts on the LPDA.

The walkie alerts are actually still on the Indyme system, they just are no longer configured. But you could theoretically program a call button to do it. Otherwise, no way around it.

Most of the time the LPDA works just fine, plus there is always the lane light. If walkie alerts went off for everything, that would encourage the GSA/GSTL to not even be close to the lanes (not like they already don't).

Now if your GSA/GSTL isn't checking for alerts, then that's a totally separate issue in itself. I would refresh the alerts pretty regularly so as not to get signed out for inactivity.

Ah, I was just curious. I really wish they still sent a message over the walkies, perhaps one day they'll bring the function back.

Considering we're getting iTouches soon, I doubt it 😉 Will probably be much nicer/reliable for getting alerts.

Good for you...but when alerts are known to sign you out somewhere between 30 seconds and an hour of inactivity, I don't have time to be refreshing every minute to make sure I'm still logged in. When our equipment sucks and is completely unreliable, there is only so much we can do on our end.

I refreshed every 5-10 minutes and never got logged out. /shrug

When it was busy I would refresh like every minute to make sure I got them all ASAP lol.

Never had assistance needed at the lanes prompts in the 14 years I've been at this store. Cashiers always let the GSTL know (usually flashing light) so that they could assess the needs and call out for appropriate help.

I never heard the carry out indymes but until mid 09, "change needed" was heard over the walkie multiple times a day.
