How bad is it to use your discount for a friend?

If you get caught (and you likely will) you will get fired. They can easily track transactions and are always watching for discount fraud.

I mean first you have to get caught. Is your friend coming up to you register and you're putting in your discount for them? It's tied to the Circle app, so youll have to scan yours (which the eye in the sky will definitely see) and if they're paying it'll be with cash, they can't use their Circle app to pay for it or use a credit card. (Unless you use cash a lot to pay for things the transaction will probably be flagged as suspicious, cueing a review of camera footage).

If you buy something for a friend and use your discount once in awhile it can be a "gift" and that's acceptable, as long as they don't pay you back for it (but if it's infrequent enough who would ever know if they did?).
You could run into trouble if they have to return it though, it would show your team member discount on the receipt.

If your "friend" is actually your long-term romantic partner, there is a "domestic partner" option under team member discounts. In case it applies.

"Is there serious risk of termination", yes.
Friends don't let friends do this.

Even so, good luck being able to tell if the breakfast I buy EVERY DAY (plus a clearance bakery item if it looks good) has an item I'm buying for a friend (maybe my friend likes blueberry muffins) and not for myself. No way to know from the outside.

At face value, depending on where you are and who is around... it might not be that bad.
On a residential street at 2am covered in ice? Probably not a good idea.

Either way, you're opening yourself up to getting pulled over and getting in trouble.

A team member at my store did this and she was not termed. She was put on a final. This was over a year ago she is now a leader.

Didn't know about this, but my attitude about this subject is to not abuse the privilege. Can probably count on two hands the number of times I've used my discount for other than myself in 15+ years. And never for something expensive like a gaming console or a Dyson.
