Sorry if there is a similar thread. I couldn't find a recent one... anyways, I was just curious if there is any manner in which a raise can be negotiated?
I ended up taking a promotion to PMT a few years ago and because of the volume of the store, being a super (rather than pfresh), and all the responsibility that came with the job I tried to negotiate a higher starting pay. Needless to say it got shot down because of the pay jump from TM to PMT and lack of experience.
Fast forward to now, I've had several years in role and always have good visits, PMBR numbers are solid and a higher workload than any store in my district... And yet I'm pretty sure I make the minimum for my role. Is there any way to receive a bigger raise or am I better off moving elsewhere at some point?
TLDR: is negotiating a pay raise ever a possibility?

Are you willing to relocate?

Generally you're best chance to negotiate higher pay is via a lateral move. We had a TL negotiate a 3 dollar raise by taking the same position at a different location.

At your same store generally you're generally only going to get your usual annual merit raises.

Moving might be a possibility if there is a decent enough raise involved. Without moving, it already takes about 30 minutes to get to my store so there are a handful of stores I could also transfer to if an opening became available. Other than that, I guess its pretty much what I expected with the annual raise. Thank you for the responses.

Before I was a Sr.TL, I was able to get a 3 dollar raise when I was Starbucks TL at my old store. I only asked for a raise because my work center was delivering some good results. Maybe you can use your metrics to negotiate a pay increase.

Moving closer to home is like a pay increase in itself, most people don't do it because we get to comfortable where we are,but it can be a smart move.

What have your review scores been? If you’re doing well you should be getting something every year with your performance reviews. It’s hard to know how off base your pay might be without knowing where you are and a ballpark of what you make. I know what PMT starts in my area, and I know what a few of the other guys with years in role in my district make. If you want to be more specific but maintain privacy, feel free to shoot me a pm.

I went from a TM position (well technically it was a Specialist position at one time) to PMT. The pay increase wasn’t really negotiable since I didn’t have a strong background in the field although I have took promotions before where I got a little bit more than I should have. I would say you’d have to prove your experience with certifications to show your experienced in the role.

Like what was mentioned, I’d say your best pay negotiation is before you enter this role and you had a strong background in related fields.

I don’t have much experience here since I was an external hire and I wasn’t really eligible last time they gave raises. There’s no reason you can’t bring it up to your PMBP, Ive even heard of a PMT in my district get a mid-year raise but he had a stellar store (not to mention he trains all of the time so his store always has a 2nd hand there...). Just bring up that you thing you deserve a raise and why you do. Try to get your LOG and STL to back you on it too

My reviews have been good. All positive but never get the top grade... I've literally been told only one or two people are allowed to get it (Not sure if that's true or not). With my store being the top volume in the district I train anytime a new PMT joins... And I think one just quit lol. I guess I'll bring it up with the PMBP next week. Can't hurt to mention it.
And I'm just guessing I'm at the minimum because when min wage jumped to $11, I noticed I got a few cents too lol. Thank you guys for the input!

I have negotiated pay 3 times in the past very successfully. Recently I negotiated a very small increase when asked to make a lateral move that was of more benefit to the business than to me. It was only fifty cents, but hey... that's not bad between reviews. I don't think I've seen that much with my reviews recently! lol I don't think it's very easy for most to do and I don't think that most stores will do it.

If you’re not already consistently getting the highest review scores possible, it’s going to be a really tough sell to get a raise outside of reviews. It’s much easier for them to say no, and bring up your weak points, than to consider anything positive you bring to the table.

Something to keep in mind is that minimum is going to keep rising, so even if you do get a few extra dollars, you'll be right back at the minimum again in a few years. Not that it isn't worth trying to get more now.
