I'm recently reentering the job market after a short time (about 9 months) off of it - I had to care for my ailing husband, as he recovered from emergency surgery. Anyways, my last job was as a cashier at wally world, but I only did that for about a year. previously I had been with target for five years, and moved when I got married - unfortunately I had to quit because the nearest target was over 30 miles away!
I really want to apply for a leadership position at a retailer nearby, but they say I need at least 3 months leadership experience to do so. While at target I was not in a formal "leadership" position, but in my last 6 months with the company I was on what was then called the "team leader bench" I don't know if you guys still have anything like that - but I had a lot of informal responsibilities associated with leadership - delegating tasks, ensuring we finished every night (and no I was not a GSA).
Would target maintain any information that I was on the team lead bench when I left? would they verify that for prospective employers? Would they deny it if I listed it? I spoke with this retailer's local hiring manager, and he said he "may" consider it as relevant experience, but that it was up to the corporate background check if I could even get an interview. Does anyone know what target would tell their third party background verification service?
