Today I saw a fellow TM clock in by swiping a card through the reader. This is the first time I have seen this, as everyone else just punches in their numbers. What is this card and how can I get it? I would much prefer it over punching in my numbers all the time.

They are old nametags with photos. They no longer make or give them out. My HR made the SFT take out the thing that registers the swipe so nobody could use those anymore They swear it was causing punch corrections but I think theyre full of crap..

Damn. Too bad there isn't a way to make a card that could swipe through, or something.

Im sure if you have a barcode maker you can do it. Haha. Its just a barcode on the back generated with your employee number

My bardcode is worn out cause ive been with Spot so long. But this is what they look like

Yeah those were discontinued in 2010 I believe. Too costly to print them, the camera broke frequently, etc. I think mine at a friend's house somewhere. Wish I can have it back... I was 20 when the picture was taken lol.

So if I want to try to make a barcode for myself, what should I use? Code 128? Then just attach it to some kind of blank card and see if it swipes?

I have no clue honestly. On my card there is a 480 then the employee number, then a 4 at the end. I would assume code 128. I would definitely check with hr before trying it though. I wouldnt want to get you terminated for something as silly as not typing in your number lol.

480 and 4? Sounds like the numbers on the discount card.

@Forhyre yeah I just checked my discount card. Its the same barcode/number. The nametag was/still is a discount card also. Didnt cross my mind until you mentioned it.

So really as long as the barcode lined up with the scanner in your timeclock it should work.

there are 2 stores in our area who still use them. I think it has to do with parking garage in the mall and also a common elevator with another store.

Think my discount card barcode will work, then?

Possibly.. otherwise you need a taller barcode.

A while back, we had a TM transfer in from a store that used those tags. He couldn't swipe though because our reader was broken.

The swipe cards are all we use at the DC. It's more of a security thing, since the card allows access through the entrance gate, front door, warehouse floor, etc. In a pinch we can still enter our TM# in manually, like at the store. And yes, the card is scannable and acts as a TM discount card.

In my state, we have paid breaks (a blessing and a curse), but with the way our time clocks work, I would assume you would just swipe before and after break and the time clock would figure it out if it was start/end meal.

One of our GSTLs has one, and I believe that one of the stores in our district still uses them. I still have one of my clock cards from Wally/Sam's. I don't know if they still do it, but at Walmart they would just use a hip printer to print out a label to stick to the back of your name tag and Sam's would print out the barcode using the membership card printer. When I transferred, I had the barcodes of both of my overnight managers on my clock card so I could override my team's punches.
