I'm Lost! The REDCard Thread

No. There's a $200 limit on the temporary cards. After that the limit is based on your purchase history. So do the application first, get approved, put $199 on it and pay the rest in cash.
Nope, the limit depends on the application. I got a high limit. I've seen them as high as $2500. Seriously.

I'm having a hard time selling the red card lately. I've been used to being a good seller ever since I started back in August of last year however the last three weeks lately I've had a dry spell. Nearly all the popular cashier's that I know get them. Maybe....6 a week. I'm wondering if I'm going to be performanced out for this at some point, as ive heard stories. Is the dry spell due to the timing of the year? I don't know. At the moment I'm feeling kind of distraught and conflicted.

I'm tired of this competition shit too. I thought we were supposed to be a team?

As a cashier who works nights/closing shifts, I'm often the only register open for the last hour. Between 8-10 pm, we may have 2 registers open. The lines get long...5+ guests waiting. Calls for backup are useless since there is no one available. I'm at my wits end as to how I'm supposed to sell red cards to guests who are already angry by the time they come up to me.

If my closing cashier has a line and has a guest wanting a redcard, they suspend the order and sign in on a different register and I walk the first through the redcard while the cashier finishes ringing out guests.

I think that the question is more about "how am I supposed to tell guests about the RC when they've already waited in line for a few minutes." Not so much as how to do a RC.

I know, it is very frustrating to try and "sell" the RC when you have a line waiting at your register. When it is busy make it easier and just as if they are interested in saving 5%.....if the answer is "no thank-you" then leave it at that.....then at least you can tell the GSTL that you asked every guest.

During peak hour is another rough time for asking about RCs. There are times when it just isn't reasonable to "sell" the RC to the guest.....if the choice is keeping the guests happy or your GSTL....you are kind of stuck between a rock & a hard place. For me, when it is this busy I would rather have to deal with an angry GSTL (later) than an angry guest (now).

You just don't understand Target. Yes, piss them off asking repeatedly about REDCards while there are long lines (how can there be long lines at Target - Guest First!) but then we woo them back with giving away the store. Easy peasy.

I have tried so many diffrent ways to sell this card it is actually sad. I actually went for over a month of not being able to sell them. There's one coworker whos always getting them and she has actually taken guests from my register and gotton sales from them. I also keep getting called thief and being put down by guests over asking. I never hear other coworkers getting treated like this. Also, other peoples methods don't seem to work.

Partner with your gsa or Gstl for help on this.

I've tried, they won't even give me the time of day unless I sell them. Or at the end of the day when I don't and they just want to chew me out for failing.
This is going to sound silly, but try alternating registers. Different guests, and some registers actually have better luck

Can you fire someone over this?? He's been here for a while and is not technically a cashier just a sales floor team member who gets guest service shifts regularly. I just don't think that's right!

Just so you know I merged this in with the general Red Card thread.
It has been asked in here a couple of times actually.

The answer is no, you can't be fired for not getting Red Cards.
You can be fired for not asking, not working hard enough to get them, not having the right attitude that allows you to get them, and if you're a GSTL not leading in a fashion that makes other people get them.

So the basic answer is they can't fire you directly for not getting the damned things but if they decide you aren't trying hard enough and won't change they will come up with a way to get rid of you.

Thanks for merging + for answering, I was just so upset for them I posted right away instead of looking to see if the question had been answered.

OK....so this morning we were really quiet...for some reason we had three cashiers up front and someone at GS. Our LOD gets this bright idea to have someone go out to the salesfloor and tell guests about the RedCard. I was the lucky one! I'm thinking that we are now going to pester our guests about the RC so much that pretty soon they're going to go somewhere else to shop.Of my first 11 guest Vibe moments, 9 of them already had the RC. Then I started to ask the guests if they knew about Cartwheel. Many had, but there were a few that hadn't and some that didn't know that you can take pictures of the UPC labels to see if the item is there.

I don't have a smart phone and have never used cartwheel. I've learned answers to questions only because I've listened to others answer the questions. Anyway, I come across one guest who has said that she had tried cartwheel before, but that it didn't work. So, I'm trying to help the guest and we get to a place where I don't know the next step. I radio and ask if there are any TMs that could come over to help us out. What is funny is that our STL heard my question and asked: Who is this....and where are you?

I found it kind of funny that our LOD hadn't told our STL about having someone go out on the sales floor. Anyway, the STL was able to help the guest....so hopefully she'll start using cartwheel.

I did learn today about how to get to the part of cartwheel so you can take pictures of the labels.

I am so sick of RCs that I could puke.....and it would be in red, no doubt!

You can practice on cart wheel on your computer or my device, just use your target.com account to access it.

There is actually a log-in to test Cartwheel on a mydevice or PC without using your own info. I believe I found it on mysupport. @commiecorvus is it TMI to post that here? I work next on Thursday and could post it then.

Your ETL GE should have set up an email address and password that is store specific so that the myDevices and iPads can be used to help guests.

I would say that it would not be appropriate to post that information on this site. I just feel like it is too close to that fine line of confidential information. If it was only verified Target TMs on this site, then I would say that it would be OK, but because it is a public forum, I feel like that should be left as internal information. You can very easily login to cartwheel with your own account as well.

Wow, didn't know that myDevice could be used to learn stuff! Guess my TLs & LODs haven't thought to tell all team members how useful it can be.

I don't have a target.com account......and if I did, I'd probably have to learn cartwheel on my own time....and target already gets enough of it.

Had a fun guest today....I asked the guest as she was checking out if she would be interested in getting a Target RedCard. She said "no thanks, the store near me was closed." I told the guest that perhaps she could find another store somewhat close to her home.....she told me she couldn't.....she's from Canada. (So, no RC for her!!)

She commented that Target Canada was quite the mistake....they should have thoughts things out before opening everything all at once.

Anyway, my store is in Northern Ohio...so she had made quite a trip to come to shop Target!

Who takes the most heat for cashiers not getting red cards? We haven't made goal in a month since our top red card cashier went on maternity leave. Only one cashier has been talked to about getting some as she hadnt gotten any in 2 weeks. Seems if you get at least 1 a week you are ok. The TLs will nag a bit, but our ETL hasn't brought it up to us cashiers at all, of course we almost never see her. She's always somewhere else other than the front end.
