Hey all! I’m new I’ve been reading this board since I started back as seasonal in October! Love all the advice... the reason I’m writing is I’m thinking about leaving... I’m trained on all things front in and hardlines... my Etl’s Gstl and SL are all amazing I went up for GSA in April didn’t get it but have been pretty much performing and doing gsa duties why’ll no Gsa and only my GSTL has been on duty... I heard one of the girls is stepping down cause she is only part time gsa... I was asked to come back to my old job and be assistant manager and they’d match my target pay.... I guess I’m just nervous if I leave if something goes wrong at my other job would I be able to go back to Target..? What are your guys thoughts? Should I stay or should I go?

If you leave on good terms, including working out your remaining schedule after giving notice, you may be able to be rehired if needed.

A few things to think about as you decide:
  • Why did you leave your old job? Do you honestly think that whatever caused you to leave is going to have changed enough to not be an issue now?
  • Are you willing to accept a higher amount of responsibility there for the hourly rate you're making now?
  • This is going to show a lot of rapid turnover and bouncing around on your work history. No idea how long you were at the old job before, but you've only been at Target for about 9 months. The short tenures generally don't look good on job applications. I've known hiring managers who won't even look at a candidate with that sort of job history unless there's something exceptional about them or there are no other qualified candidates.

Your old job is willing to...match your Target pay to...make you the equivalent of a Target ETL? No way I'd take that deal. Is your only dissatisfaction that you don't feel you were promoted as high as you think you should? After 8 months with the company? Since GSAs no longer make more than other TMs, there's no real reason to go for GSA. It sounds like you have a pretty good gig, why would you go for more responsibility for the same pay at your old job? Why did you leave your old job?

Honestly if you put in your appropriate 2 week's notice (maybe even 3 weeks to be nice) and actually work those last few weeks, there won't be any hard feelings. You'd be free to return, as along as they have the payroll and open positions for it.

You should just consider your job advancement. In which role would you be able to advance yourself faster? Your old job is already offering your an assistant manager position but how soon would there be a chance for you to advance to manager? Talk to your ETL/HR to see if there's going to be another GSA or a TL position open soon. If you're open to other stores you'd have a better chance.

At the end of the day, don't feel like you owe something to Target or that you have an obligation to stay. Use this to get a pay raise at either job. Broach the subject with your ETL/HR. Let them know that you're being offered another job with more responsibilities. If they truly see you as an asset and as someone they'd like to develop further, then they'll look into getting you a raise. If you go back to your old job it seems like you're taking on more responsibilities (so more stress). Why should you go through all of that for the same pay? Talk to your old job and present this to them. They need to pay your more.

If you give your two-weeks notice and work your scheduled shifts, then you're leaving on good terms and would be re-hireable at Target.
Did you like working at the other place? Like the people there? Why did you leave? Beware of "the grass is greener" syndrome - no job is perfect and there will always be attractive aspects to other jobs. I'd give some thought to why you left the other job and if those reasons are still valid.

Not necessarily. I have had some TM's over the years who were on a CA for performance or conduct that were not keyed as re-hirable despite fulfilling a 2 week notice.

Assistant Manager for Target pay? So $12-$12.50/hr?
I would expect TL pay to be an assistant manager, so at least $17/hr. Just my take....anything less and you are being taken advantage of. Labor market is TIGHT. Kohls is already starting to hire seasonal help.

Talk to ur stl and ask if it's okay to come back if things doesn't work out with the other job. That's how some of my co-workers do when they leave the store.
