Is this a promotion? I've noticed that some random team members get desks at my store in the team lead area and when I asked one of them about it they said they were 'brand'. Is this a team lead kind of position but a different title? The person I asked told me they were in charge of a certain area but they've never been LOD or seemed to be leadership.

I believe that "Brand" team members replaced the "specialists".
I think that they're more focused on a single area of the store, like cosmetics or shoes, and are responsible for making sure nothings running too low and deep zoning and making everything is where is should be. They may also be responsible for setting area specific ads or displays.

When I was brand tm for softlines they just gave me a mail box. Desk are only for TL at my store. Depending on your area they assign you, my job was to work on anything from setting tables, adjacency, setup sales planner. It sort of between a tm and a tl, basically your tl right hand man.

I can't imagine why they would get/need a desk. Our brands get 25 or 50 cents more an hour and supervisor numbers so they can cover GSA/GSTL breaks. Some of them get at least 32 hours a week and one weekend a month off.

Brand team members are also in charge of mdse, not people.

One of the brand team members at our store tries to act like a boss whenever were in her area. Basically they're just in charge of filling empty areas of the store they're assigned to, putting up ad, readjusting product, dropping batches to fill etc etc. Blows my mind some people that have been working for 10+ years dont know how to pull a batch or sto anything :p

Same here! Recently, a MBTM tried to "train" me on how to do my operator tasks...At the fitting room. When I asked why she was telling me all the stuff she was telling me, she replied, "I'm practicing for my trainer training." And I replied, "By training a trainer in an area you won't even be training people in?" She hasn't told me how to do anything since then. ;)

I technically have my own desk in TMSC as the leading PA. Im basically the CTL now that we dont have one so we have a market/pfresh desk that we always have had when we had a CTL. I just use it as my own desk

As a Brand TM, I can tell you that per company guidelines, we ARE the boss of our area. We are allowed to tell people what to (and not to) do in our departments. For example, in cosmetics, if you come in and try to just place something anywhere, I am allowed to tell you not to, and if you choose to do it anyway, you'll end up getting a coaching from whichever TL happens to be in charge of the area. Not to say that we should be yelling at you, but if you are knowingly doing something improper in our areas, it will be noted.

Your last point is so true, though. The fact that there are people in the store who literally have no idea how to do anything related to the backroom is so weird to me.

I was never trained to do any backroom stuff, because peon, I guess? Also my whole department is filled with people who will say "oh, I'll do it for you!" if you ask how to do something. I didn't know where to put backstock for like 2 years, because everyone did it for me.

I know how to do some stuff from just pushing buttons on devices, and looking over shoulders, but I pretend not to sometimes. I... Don't wanna do anything other people get paid more money to do. Our mbtms in sl were silently demoted a few months ago. I didn't know they still existed in the company

Just adding that when I interviewed for Brand my TL specifically told me "you would be allowed to tell the rest of the softlines girls to do things and correct them if they are doing something wrong. If I'm not here you would be the next one in charge"

Interesting, yeah I didn't mean any disrespect. I have a lot of respect for the brand members at our store, always make their pulls very neat and organized and usually I find time to get their stuff pulled immediately or I've even gone to show one of them how to pull then backstock. She is bossy though and tells backroom to pull her stuff without asking. She never seems to have the same respect and just sends backstock completely unorganized and just thrown into a repack. :(

Yeah, that's unacceptable. I try to maintain a good relationship with the backroom. We need each other too much to be being that rude.

We had a cosmetics brand TM that tried to stop me from fulfilling a flex order for a few cosm items. She told me not to pick the items from shelf and get then from the back

I laughed at her and continued to o fulfill my order from the floor.

Yea, this is how it was when they were called specialists, too. No TL, ask them what to do. It got interesting when we had multiple specialists in. One of the former specialists is very controlling.

I don't know why she would do that, unless there was actually a ton in the back, but even then, we're supposed to help with finding the correct flex products.
