Last Saturday, I was carrying a box in Pfresh and sliced my right index finger on one of the large, clear shelf section dividers. As soon as it happened (and I had calmed myself enough to pick up my walkie to call), I called a "Code Green" and reported my injury.

The STL applied antibiotic ointment and gauze to the finger. She used two bandaids to hold the gauze on. Since the bandaids weren't enough, she then used scotch tape over the bandaids. After, she immediately gave me a task to complete and sent me back to work. She never had me sign anything or fill out an incident report, and seeing as I am still within my 90 days, I didn't want to question my boss. She gave me an order; I obeyed it. It stopped bleeding pretty quickly, so I didn't think it was anything TOO bad.

However, today, while letting it air out a bit (I've pretty much just kept it covered except to briefly change bandaids), I realized that the cut wasn't healing properly. Because it's on a joint, every time I bend the finger, the cut splits open, and it starts to ooze clear fluid (plus a tiny bit of blood at times). When I realized the cut was worse than I initially thought, I realized I needed to seek medical attention.

I stupidly told the dr that I was injured at work (I went to someone in my insurance network, not thinking that it was a work injury- I was simply thinking that this needed medical attention). Now, I'm freaking out because I never filled out any incident reports for this injury, and I can't afford to pay for this out of pocket. I didn't realize my insurance wouldn't cover an injury that happened at work.

Am I screwed?

Depends if you already received care, you might be out of luck with your insurance if you did.

Either way You should/can be able to file an incident report in which case you can go to any clinics or doctors in the area contracted with target. Depending on your state you can see even your own doctor.

You should've worn gloves. Duh. That's why we have those black or blue work gloves! Common sense. And you should've been more careful around sharp objects. Lessons learned. Personal protective equipment should've been used.

Lacking a photo of your injury, and based on what you described, my expert medical advice is , to suck it up. You made way too many mistakes....... it’ll heal.... Is your STL hot? I like a woman in charge, it makes there vagina prettier. Like they take care of it.... perfume, I’d imagine, or just better general hygiene..... because of the position.
Woof.

Edit : my dog took away my phone while i was typing.

Why would your STL be administering garage shop first aid?
If it requires stitches & a tetanus shot, you should talk to your ETL-HR about filing a report & THEY should talk to your STL about following work-injury protocols.

The STL was also the LOD- this happened on a day I was working a 4am shift- the store wasn't even open at the time.

My STL is female and I'm straight, so that's irrelevant. And while it might have healed, the point is, it WASN'T healing properly. The cut kept ripping/splitting open. I felt there was something wrong and opted to seek medical attention because of it.

If the dividers on the shelves are so sharp that I need work gloves (which 1, I don't have and 2, would be too big for me to use anyway), then that's a major issue as I don't know any guest who dons protective gloves to shop at Target.

Guests don't handle shelf dividers anyway and I'm not talking about guests to begin with. I was using sarcasm to refer to you. At my store, no TM had such incident so maybe 4am shifts are not for you if you're not wide awake for that that you're clumsy handling stuff to injure yourself. And any type of manual labor handling stuff, I wear work gloves. WORK. GLOVES. Better to be safe than sorry.

I wasn't "handling shelf dividers". I was walking by the shelf and I scraped my finger on the divider. That can happen with ANYBODY in the store. A guest can easily bump into something when trying to squeeze past another guest, or while reaching into a shelf to grab something. I overestimated the amount of room I had to move through the aisle with a box and was injured because of that. That's not being clumsy; it was trying to work in a too-small space. This could have JUST as easily happened to a guest, or to me at 4 in the afternoon.

So, what's your solution for being slammed by a pusher that suddenly gets unstuck?

So, I guess I need to buy gloves since Target isn't providing them for me. Any idea where I can find work gloves for KIDS that will protect my hands without being so bulky that I can't actually do anything. I do need to be able to feel the texture of the produce. I tried wearing my winter gloves one day, but they didn't work.

Either transfer to apparel where you will have a lower "risk of something getting unstuck and hitting you" or just deal with it if you want to stay in market. We're not that fragile that we'll bleed if we get slammed by a pusher and we shouldn't even be using force to push things in a small space since you'll be damaging the item. That's the problem with having things in close proximity to give the impression of "full".

Do you have a home improvement in your end of the woods? That's a great place to find some gloves.

Your store should provide Ansell gloves for you. Talk to your flow TL and just say you need gloves.
